I have fished Rock Creek 3 different times and spent a toal of 14 days . The opening scene of this video I can well remember because I was wadeing when a brown bear cub came out of the woods behind me, across the road, through the creek and at a dead run ran up those pile of loose rocks. I froze thinking what if mama shows up now and I waited about 5 minutes and was relieved that nothing more happened. At the same campsite one morning my friends and I woke up to a herd of wild sheep that were feeding on the grasses and were within hand reach of the front of the tent. Absolutely amazing! I cannot tell you how many trout we caught but it must have been over 100, all released except for a few for dinner. I have fished the creek from the campsite to the main road and will never forget. For you that get to go there, have a great time.

Rock Creek is and always will be my favorite trout stream in all the US. I have fished in 48 states and the scenery, the wildlife, the abundance of fish in the 70's and 80's at Rock Creek was incredible. I love the place, wish I could go back.
@BackyardBassin6 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more with that assessment! Never saw the stream back then but all I know is it's still an awesome place. The three of us agreed, that of all our campsites on this trip, that rock creek was our favorite!

Driving almost the whole way across the county though and seeing all the different landscapes really puts it in perspective though as to how fortunate we are to have the beautiful scenery back here in PA too. Great video! By the way it looks like the fish at 12:12 was most definitely a bull!
@BackyardBassin7 жыл бұрын
+Bryce Hasquet we were hoping that some people would weigh in on whether it was a bull or brook! Since none of us had ever caught a bull before we aren't sure but thought it didn't quite look like a brook trout. Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for watching!

Bully for sure no brookies in rock creek that I’m aware of
@BackyardBassin6 жыл бұрын
Is there any particular identification feature that you look for in order to tell then apart? They seem to look very similar when they're small. Pretty neat though to catch a bull trout. We don't have any of those back east haha
@BryceHasquet6 жыл бұрын
Backyard Angling bulls are gray with pink/white spots and no black spots at all. Brookies are more of a dark blue/green with blue, red, and yellow spots with black squiggly patterns on their back.

Sam Stockton there’s brookies in rock creek. I’ve caught a couple, not many though.

Hey great video guys! You got into some really nice fish, wish I'd hooked into some of them when I was there. I fished the Upper Rock, looks like you fished the lower, they just opened 17 miles of the lower a few days before we got there and guys were hammering it. The middle section was still closed, wouldn't even allow us to walk in, but we did have fun on the upper section, wish we could've fished it one more day. Oh well, all good memories. Nice job! 👍🏻
@BackyardBassin7 жыл бұрын
+PA WOODS N WATER we were camped at the Bitterroot campground and fished mostly between there and the ranger station. Sounds like we hit it pretty good from what you are saying. Some people were even telling us that the water was too high. It's really interesting hearing how your trip went though. Sorry you weren't able to get full access to the stream but like you said - good memories none the less. Besides, I guess it gives you an excuse to go back ;)

I noticed Penn State T shirt on a member of your party. It is nice to hear that Penn State isn't just for football but u guys love to fly fish for trout. Best wishes for the future and tight lines. U guys should check out Baxter State Pk in Maine. Great fly fishing for beautiful Brook trout.

John Stanton that would be my brother wearing the shirt. I am actually the treasurer of the Penn State fly fishing club and our club advisor always says that Penn State was fly fishing U before they were linebacker U! It's a great place for trout fishing! great video cant wait to fish here. i am curious at 3:45 as to how you mounted that GoPro on your backpack strap?
@BackyardBassin7 жыл бұрын
+Jordan Palm it really is a fantastic place to fish! As for the gopro mount our video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6vPoWp4qpl3eKs shows how we did it around the 7:35 marker. Essentially all I did was take the mount from the gopro packaging, cut it to size, drill a hole in each corner, and thread zip ties through it. Works fantastic! Hope this helps.

@BackyardBassin7 жыл бұрын
+Bruce Harris we were there the second week of July and never saw any signs if fire other than the helicopters. No smoke or anything. We know another guy who lives in PA and has a KZbin channel (PA Woods and Water) that was there in the end of July I think and said most of Rock Creek road was closed and there was a lot of smoke.

@BackyardBassin7 жыл бұрын
+Slayton James thanks for the kind words! We were there about the second weekend of July. From what I hear it's a great time of year to fish it. Unfortunately for us the water was a little high due to last winter's snow pack but still fished half decent. The wildlife and beautiful scenery more than made up for the okay fishing! Thanks for watching!
