FLY FISHING SNY MAGILL CREEK | TROUT IN THE IOWA DRIFTLESS REGION | Marquette Iowa (October 2019)

Winter is coming! It was a really crispy morning session on Sny Magill Creek! Just outside of McGregor, IA it was a very manageable drive. These fish were rather spunky and I got into more stocker rainbow trout than I could count! Some of them had beautiful colors and others were ZOMBIED OUT. (So Spooky) I did run into a few wild post spawn browns that really made the trip worth it. This is another creek that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources must have just stocked because it was almost automatic. Not calling myself a good angler by any means, just that my targets were not the sharpest tools in the shed. All things considered, this creek had so much public access and a ton of really awesome water to fish! Don't be afraid of this cold weather, get out and fish while you still can! Yeah that could very well be the case! A previous angler could have mishandled these guys before I got to them.

Those zombie rainbows look like they have lesions on them instead of predator scars. It looks like they have a disease of some type.

I have a question. I'm tying the mini meat whistle. What do you think about wrapping a few wraps of lead wire to get it down faster ? I'm using the 1/8 bead head only right now .

I wrap almost every single nymph/streamer with lead. It makes a massive difference

Where did you enter in on this river? Looking it up on the DNR’s website there are like 12 different parking lots. Just want to make sure we are able to hit some good spots there
