Cricket pattern. I like to use foam.
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Good morning buddy! I think maybe a foam cylinder is good for the body, never tried it yet, but simple deer or elk hair I think works great for wings and legs, just looks buggy. I also like keeping it no bigger than a size 12-3xl because even the smaller wild fish can get it in their mouths. The bigger sizes, the fish sometimes get spooked or they hang underneath it and inspect it and refuse at times. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi Scott. Been so long since I fished the Little Lehigh I forgot where it is located. First time was in Feb/March 77 /78. A kid was stuck on the bottom next to the big tree across from the parking lot. Stuck fast to a monster brown who ate his pellet fly. Found out about the "Al's Rat" after that fellow Rohrbach opened the fly shop. Those were great yrs. So good times to you,God be with you.
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hello Tom! Very nice to hear from you! Yes, the same Little Lehigh, but no fly shop there anymore. Still gets hammered, but always some holdovers to have fun with. Thanks for watching and commenting and God bless.

@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hi Greg! Sadly, no, don’t think I’ll be able to this year with my hunting season starting. I Hope somebody does and lets me know how they did with it. Actually, this fly can be used on every single trout stream, there’s crickets just about everywhere. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
@scottlowe3355 Жыл бұрын
I tied a few after you’ve mentioned the fly previously. It is a great alternative to the hopper. I’d never thought about how the bigger foam flies may spoil more fish and I think you’re right. And crickets are very active in our region. Looks like great fun and thanks for sharing your experience with us!
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott! Yes, my experience with bigger hoppers and crickets have been, many miss hits or spooked fish or the fish follow your fly from underneath and inspect the hell out of it until they turn away. Another good trick for the black stimulator is simply color a regular stimulator with a black permanent marker, works great!👍🏻 Give it a shot! Thanks for watching and commenting.

Good stuff, Scott. Thanks for posting. I just walked in the door from fishing Yellow Breeches this morning - there were olives and tricos coming off, and fish rising, but after a bunch of refusals changed to a hopper and ended up with 4 big ol’ browns. All in the fast water. Last one had someone else’s beetle still in his mouth 😂. Gonna tie up some black stimulators! Love the ferocious terrestrial takes.
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Awesome! Didn’t know the Breeches had Tricos. Yes, love the big terrestrial hits on top, especially in skinny riffs 👍🏻. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi Scott, I’m a new subscriber. I enjoy your videos very much. Kudos to you for creating an innovative Black Stimulator with some white dear hair for improved vision. I’ve never heard or seen anyone else use this color variation on this pattern. I just searched the internet (including Holsinger’s) for a place to buy this fly. I couldn’t find it anywhere! KZbin standard color Stimulator fly tying videos are confusing: some tiers use foam bodies while some use dubbing (Antron or rabbit); some use space hackles while some wind them close together; some tiers actually overwrap the hackles with light wire! Hook sizes and types vary considerably. Would you consider doing a fly tying video to show how YOU tie your two black Stimulator patterns? (Or if you want to sell them, I’m a buyer” Thanks, Frank
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Good morning Frank! Thank you very much. I have a very simple answer for you. Get a black permanent marker and just simply color a regular stimulator, works great! Just leave a little bit of the top of the wing light color for the indicator. Remember, when you order them, look for a size 12 preferably, and no bigger than a 10. Hope this helps, I’m sorry I don’t tye flies for sale. Appreciate you watching and commenting. If you call Holsingers, I think they will custom tye up an order for you for a minimum quantity, try that also.

Do you know what day they stock this fall? (Pa)
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
No, I’m sorry I don’t. You can check on the PA Fish and Boat Commission’s website, look up adult trout stocking schedule and check under which county and stream.

Great video. Like the idea of adding dear hair to better see the fly. Ever try a small ant on a dropper above the point fly? I like the setup better than the small fly on point.
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hi Leonard! I really don’t use a tandem dry fly rig, just one fly at a time when on top. A few times I did try two flies on top but I found that often one or both of the flies pick up too much drag too quickly. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Surprising video Scott. Never would have thought you would have caught so many trout at the little using that big of a pattern . You are a tremendous fisherman and we love watching you videos. Ps smallmouths love that pattern ,but that sure did surprise us on the little.Thanks for sharing.
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Good morning brother! I know!! But what a pleasant surprise! Went there a few days later and my buddies and I caught several more on it. I think it’s a great terrestrial searching pattern that gets overlooked, plenty of crickets, beetles and cicadas around that that pattern can represent. I don’t like going any bigger than a size 12-3xl, even the smaller trout take it pretty easy. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Hi Scott. I always enjoy your videos. Getting some black stimulators and will give them a try for sure. Was the video all at the LLC or another creek? Just got married at 65 and moved to Allentown, so I have much to learn. LLC is local for me, but I know there is tons of C&R opportunity out there. Hope to see you on the water some day.
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff! Congratulations on your marriage. If you can’t find black stimulators and don’t tye, you can order regular stimulators and color them with a black permanent marker, it works! The second stream was a freestoner out in Central PA. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

Scott, I just some stimulators. When would you say they probably would not be effective? I guess the better question is what months of the year does one use them? Thanks

Only one problem with this breakthrough fly . Next week, there will be 100 guys with that stimular .😅 But in reality, in Calif we use them because the fish finally see a big meal for a change. Good guess, bro.

Hi Pat! Well, this video is a little older, so it ran its popularity course already. Even with this fly, it’s more successful on the right type of stream under certain conditions, but like any fly, when it’s working it’s awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting.

yo scott, great video with the "stimulator" selection. got plenty of action especially that stretch of the LL, i hit that stretch all the time, less people it seems. what day were you there?, i was down monday but fished way up above the nursury, upper section of LL catch and release. potter trip was really good, jack and i did alot of work on the lodge and still found some time on the firstfork at several locations. nwxt week i plan to hit the poho, maybe tuesday, lets get together and meet up, i owe you a lunch, lol
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! These fishing trips were from two weeks ago, even tho the video just came out on Sunday. Actually, I’m in my hunting mode right now, still have two doe tags, so I’ll be in the woods more than on the water for a while, maybe on a hot and humid day I may choose to fish instead of hunting, but I’ll most likely make that call last minute. I’m sure after you get your cabin ready, you’ll be spending a lot of time up there, but best of both worlds up there, great fishing and hunting. Thanks for watching and commenting.
