Very Beautiful area! The Vermilion Cliffs area has always been one of my favorite areas in Arizona and I use to drive Skylink up past there all the time on my way up to Colorado City and St George to cover the Warren Jeffs Trial and stories on the FLDS with Joe Dana. I would always make it a point to stop for about an hour at Jacob Lake Lodge. Now that we've got a coach, I'm hoping to take my Aunt and her boyfriend up that way to the North Rim. I've lived here all my life and have never made it to the north rim, and since the boyfriend hasn't seen the Grand Canyon- Why not do both. Now, Thanks to you, I've got it in my head of finding a guided tour boat to take my elderly aunt and boyfriend up the river and around the horseshoe on a nice calm boating excursion! Your episode was beautifully shot Guys! You did very well at capturing the serenity of this little known and often missed areas of Arizona Beauty! Trish: I hope your having a great Mother's day.

Great steel guitar in the opening. It helped set the mood right away. I loved the archival photos also, nice add. You had good luck fishing too! We were at Lee's Ferry Campground a couple of weeks ago. No hookups and it got to 92F. Luckily it was windy to keep our trailer cool with open windows. Solar kept batteries charged. Took a half day float trip down from the dam to Lee's Ferry. Saw lots of fish in the clear water but didn't see anyone catching trout. Horse Bend is more impressive from the overlook then on the river since downstream from the dam the river has so many bends you're don't realize you are going through Horseshoe Bend unless the guide points it out. We were lucky to get a spot that overlooks the river. Most days the campground filled up. First come first severed. Dump station is located a quarter mile down the road. Water is available at the dump or the flush toilets in the campground. Verizon LTE available at the campground. Our Weboost made it better.
@mgb32056 жыл бұрын
KJRitch I have a question about your solar. How many watts of PV panels do you have? Mounted on roof or position on ground? Describe your battery array, like 4x6V deep cycle flooded acid. I have installed my 4x6V Bats and plan a shake down 6 day trip in June.
@KJRitch6 жыл бұрын
Mike I have 400w on the roof plus a 200w Zamp portable that can plug into the trailer’s solar. I removed the Zamp controller on the portable so the Bluesky controller controls all the panels. We have two Lifeline 6v 220ah batteries.

Great episode. The fishing looked like a blast and you are right, go with a guide to maximize your fishing experience. If you look at the file footage you used (at 6:51) you will notice that the engineers at the Glen Canyon Damn had to use plywood purchased from local hardware stores to prevent the water from going over the top in large quantities. There is a great book called The Emerald Mile that is about that world breaking , crazy, illegal wooden Dory ride down the Colorado during the epic flood of 1983. In addition, it also details the little known facts about engineering and design shortcomings at the dam and how unbelievably close we came to a catastrophic failure and potential loss of thousands of lives and millions upon millions in property and agricultural losses down river - A very interesting read.

Wow!! Loved the video. What a beautiful country we live in. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Gosh, I hate when things don’t work on the RV. We had water heater issues on our less than 1 year RV once. Luckily, it was under warranty. Got fixed right away by replacing a part I can’t remember which one. That slide not coming in, oh boy. Well again, you live and learn and get experience on how to fix things on your RV. That maintaining the battery thing sounds important. I’ll have to keep up with that. Thanks for all the great tips and wonderful video. Happy 😃 and Safe Travels!!

Did you try the little reset button behind the little black grommet on the water heater ? It was so awesome that you got to experience Horseshoe Bend from both vantage points... that's special. I've spent literally hundreds of hours on the Colorado and know it like the back of my hand. From Glen Canyon Dam to Parker Dam. I used to boat upriver from Temple Bar for about 50 miles in an 18 foot aluminum boat powered by two 8HP Honda outboards and then camp at various places along the shore .... maximum boondocking :-) You could be assured that I was the only boat on the water because at the time, the 2-stroke engines didn't have enough range to travel that distance and there were no gas docks anywhere along the way. It was so serene having those canyons all to myself. I've also towed a boat to Lake Powell 3 times (from Georgia) and covered almost every mile of the entire shoreline. I have a Playlist on our channel from one of the trips and we covered more than 200 miles a day, for 5 days in a 15'-9" RIB. I couldn't agree more about the landscape and scenery in the area :-) John Wesley Harding was quite a special individual. Not only was he an expedition leader, he was a cartographer and naturalist. It was common for him to climb to the highest point along the river and scout the severity of the rapids before making passage. I once climbed a trail that led to one of his documented lookouts at the top of a ridgeline. It was an extremely difficult climb, and I was in my early 30s. Imagine my surprise when I later learned that in addition to being an expedition leader, he was also a decorated war veteran who lost his right arm in battle ..... now picture him climbing all those mountains !!!!!
