The met is my wife and I favorite place. So thank you for helping keep it clean.

Fished that area and have had some fishless days as well but such a beautiful place. Nice seeing what's possible if you're inclined to walk and get away from the bridge and the people. Look forward to seeing how you do on the Dechutes and will be in that area too for the first time! Thanks for sharing, enjoy the videos and information.

Many thanks! It was super fun heading downstream. I might wait a year and do it again. I hit the salmon fly hatch 2 days ago, and it was tough (WINDY!). But I came away with several nice trout. Video in a couple days. I heard the hatch is going to explode this week based on temps. Have fun when you hit it. Look for that shaded jungle water!

I was just there Monday filming the same section. Forgot my dry fly spool so I was stuck with nymphing. Saw a black bear too! If you found a net lmk lol. Those Met redsides fight harder than any trout lb for pound.
@chuckmorgan30492 жыл бұрын
should have said you lost a fly box too!

That's crazy you saw a bear. Been a few years since I've seen one. Used to see em" up by Mount Jefferson from time to time.

Just lost my net below 99 last weekend!

@@futuremetz1 Darn, that sucks. I used to lose them from time to time, until I started using a coiled lanyard.

Hi Jeff. It's been a while since I enjoyed one of your videos, and am sure I've watched this one two or three times. Great stuff as always. I'm considering heading up to central Oregon from Central Calif. 3rd week or so in April, and am wondering your thoughts on if this makes sense and, if so, where to focus our efforts. Thanks in advance; really enjoy your work!
@dynamicphotography_8 ай бұрын
In late April, it should be okay. This river is largely unaffected by heavy rain or spring run-off. Since I mostly use dry flies, I would be thinking about Blue Winged Olives, March Browns, and similar. For nymphs, probably the standard stuff. There is a great fly shop in Sisters that could assist with that. There is another at Camp Sherman, but they are often closed midweek when I pass by. In April, the headwater stretch is still closed. On this river, the fish do not wake up early. No need to set up early. The fish move around a lot here too. Once you locate good trout habitat, don't stay there too long. Also try not to enter the water when possible, they can see and hear you really well here. These are extraordinarily smart trout. I would focus on bends in the river, swirly back eddies, around downed trees, and similar. Have fun.

Thanks so much, Jeffrey. Is fantastic information. I'm wondering if there are other rivers you would suggest as well during late April.

Great video there buddy. Nice fish and what a beautiful river. Im from New Zealand but I do have ambitions to come to Oregon one day. Im subscribed to your channel and I gave the video a like.

You pulled in some nice fish. Have yet to fish below 99 bridge, but your video has me planning for the upcoming season. The Metolius has always been a mystery for me. I liken it to Oregon's version of the Letort. Very different rivers, same challenging fish.

The Metolius is probably the prettiest fishery I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I'll be there in a couple of weeks. How far past bridge 99 did you go? I understand the access points are more limited the farther you go downstream - till you get closer to the lake? Thank you.

I’ve caught fish right in front of that same downed tree.

THX!!! Yeah, that GARMIN InReach has been one of favorite pieces of gear! Especially on those overnight backpacking expeditions to high lakes. It's cheap insurance in case something goes really wrong.

Would that be by highway 99 ,🤔 lol. I've always said when I pass it's where I'm going to pass at.. and where I want my ashes to lay... Some people may look for heaven, I myself found to be at peace, as one in a serenity with nature only here at the metolius.

Yeah, I could see that. The Metolius is a special place. Spiritual! Thanks for watching!
