Between late Winter and early Spring weather patterns, I set out to explore some high elevation streams in the Great Smoky Mountains that I have been wanting to explore for some time now. I was greeted by a beautiful snow and some beautiful native brook trout.

Solid video. Winter time flyfishing for wild trout isn’t easy most days. A couple of fish is a victory and you got to be outside in Gods glory.

Thank you! I totally agree-simply finding success at all in that kind of weather is a win in my book. Looking forward to some spring time on the river! Hope y’all are doing well!

Good stuff! I have been a subscriber of your channel for about a year and enjoy your content. You seem to be migrating toward what I do the most is chase the wild native brookies of NC. I find the winter time provides a good time to get out exploring new water. If you catch something it is icing on the cake. I have several adventures on my channel chasing native brookies. Check them out one day. Tight lines!

Thanks so much! You’re exactly right-while I love most types of fishing, I really gravitate towards native and wild trout for some reason. Those fish take us to some beautiful places! I just really like getting out and seeing places that a lot of people may not put in the work to go see. Thanks for watching, and I’ll definitely check out the channel.

Not quite. I do plan on making it to the headwaters of Deep Creek one day though. Have only fished the lower half so far. Can’t wait to see the upper half one day when I have more time. Thanks for watching!

Any recommendations on a biggener fly rod. Size/length. Also in NC

You’ll probably find several differing opinions on this. A lot depends on what kind of fishing you are wanting to do. I started off with a 9 foot 5 weight rod. I think it is a very versatile setup. It can easily be used to fish for trout on larger rivers (think delayed harvest or other stocked waters), you can fish ponds and lakes for bream and small bass (which is a ton of fun and a great way to get better at casting). I currently have an Echo Carbon XL in this exact size and LOVE it. It’s a great rod for its price point. Alternatively, if you are hoping to fish smaller water in tight quarters, something like a 7 foot 3wt rod is a great setup. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
