I finally got it together today and had them smashing dries a little way up from there. Had one one over six pounds and it tore loose after fiver minutes. But I got excited and snapped two right off when they hit so hard! Thought of you and what face you would have made! if you saw me. Like a fool! BIG fish upstream there all stacked up. Hit me up if you want to see. It's only a five minute walk from truck. They're big.

yo scott, great video from the upper lehigh. water levels looked pretty decent and the fish were very active. liked the dry dropper setup, it's a must in the lehigh at times, always seems to produce. used that setup in the LL a few days ago and did very well, pretty similar flies just a bit smaller, you know how those LL trout are, very picky at that, lol. i am heading up to the upper lehigh friday morning, general area off route 534, below the dam up there. hey lets plan a trip to the poho ok, temps are getting up there but that water stays pretty cold, i know an area you would enjoy, nice water and always good fishing. ok buddy great video as usual and talk to you soon.

@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hi buddy! Sorry, my first reply was pertaining to today’s video on Tricos. I don’t know, but a Fish Commission biologist report from several years ago stated the same, their results showed around 90% of their counts were stocked fish, when they did find a few wild brookies or brownies they were in areas that were close to cold tribs or limestoners, which makes sense. Also the bottom up there is very rocky with boulders and mostly all covered with that green slime. Probably not good for spawning in the main river, they need small stones or gravel that’s well oxygenated. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Thanks, Scott. I always enjoy your videos and also love picking your brain. What is your favorite nymphing rod these days?
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 Жыл бұрын
Hi Alex! Well, JUST for nymphing, if a medium to big stream, I like an 11ft/3wt, for small to medium size streams, a 10ft/4wt, very small streams, a 7.5-8.5ft/3wt will probably be more comfortable. Now for nymphing and dry fly fishing, a 10ft/4wt is my preference in a fast action rod. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@alexargyros7186 Well, I’m using a G Loomis NRX+ in my 10ft/4wt fast action. Honestly I think any of the top rod makers are pretty comparable, really depends on your price range. The 11ft/3wt nymphing rod is an Echo Shadow X, very nice action and moderately priced, a high end very nice rod would be a T&T Contact, one of my 7.5 ft/3wt is an Echo Boost and my 8.8ft/4wt is a Douglas Upstream. But as I said , most high end rods are pretty comparable.

@@pawoodsnwater7551 I enjoy your videos. You know much more than I do, but two other spots to fish on the Lehigh…..Red Rock and downstream. It gets really good below the train trestle above. It’s below Rt 80. Lots of nice brookies the farther you go down. You come back out by climbing the hill to the train tracks and walking back to the parking lot. Also, the Tannery. Parking lot easy access. That 200 yard stretch below the bridge is fantastic at times. Biggest rainbows I’ve gotten there, 24” and 8lbs 6 ozs. Since I no longer live in Pa I miss that experience, but I look at your videos. I lived in Gladwyne and could be standing in the Lehigh 1 1/2 hours after leaving home. Hi Scott, don't know how to PM you, but do you know if there is parking/access up near the dam? the closest I can find on google is just above RT 80 in White Haven. Also - back decades ago when I was a kid, I used to camp above the FEW, just downstream from Pocono Lake. pulled a few trout out of there back then. but they were rainbows, so I'm assuming stocked. do you know if there are wild trout up there? tight lines. ( ps- I'll trade you - though you probably know every creek in the state! last spring I found a nice stream upstate that is stocked below, but if you go above the stocking section - it's full of wild trout - I caught the trifecta - brook, brown, and most surprisingly rainbow. i had to do a double take on the rainbow, but it was definitely wild. little 5-6 inch guy with beautiful par marks)

Hi Duff! Google Map the Francis E. Walter Dam, coming off the N E Extension of the turnpike or even the I80 ramp at the Pocono exit, take Rt. 940 about a mile or so to the FEW dam road, go down the road and drive across the dam, then it hooks to the left, you’ll pass the dam office on the right, after you pass the office a couple hundred yards there’s a pull off on the left with a gate to a dirt road, if the gate is open then that road is open to access this part of the river. They close the gate sometime in October for Fall and Winter, so if you’re going, go sooner than later, or call the dam office to find out the date when they close it so you don’t waste a trip, I’m pretty sure there’s a website for the FEW dam with a phone number. Hope this helps. You can PM me at my email: scottmxdad@yahoo.com
