@pawoodsnwater7551 tough day... fished the east branch and only landed two fish didn't hook many more than that. Sunny days and gin clear water are tough. Did see a beautiful 8 pointer standing 75 yards from us in the woods. And seen about 10 eagles lol. Floated from fish's eddy to cadosia. Beautiful 8 mile float but lots of very shallow water and some holes that are over 20 feet deep and no current. Definitely a few good holes through that stretch though. I just don't think it's holds the fish through there like it does down by hancock and the west branch.

Really enjoying your videos! You've convinced me to try a 10' 4 weight for your style of fishing this year. Can you recommend any mid priced rods in this configuration? Thanks
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 Күн бұрын
Hello Ed and thank you very much! Ok, well, the 10ft/4wts I’m referring to are not nymph action rods but rather a fast action rod. And mid price is relative to the the buyer, so since high end rods are $850-1k, mid price is probably around $400-600. I’m not too familiar with ALL rod manufacturers but some good reputable ones are Diamondback, or Orvis Recon or Temple Fork Outfitters or Scott or Sage. I’m sure there are many others, but you’ll have to do that research, just make sure it’s an all around fast action rod, Nymphing action rods are not good for dry fly fishing. One relatively inexpensive rod I casted at the NJ Fly Fishing show was the Moonlit Umbra in a 10/5, it casted beautifully and only $170 from Precision Fly Shop. Now I don’t know if they make a 10/4, but if they do, I’d seriously consider that one. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy shopping 👍🏻.

If its not a tailwater or somewhere you gotta use split shot, i dont understand why not run dry dropper? They dont have to be hitting the dry but its always a bonus. Great video!

@pawoodsnwater7551 3 ай бұрын
Good morning buddy! Because in skinny riffs like that , just getting a good drift was hard enough, adding a second fly in only 6-12” of water would’ve definitely made those super short drifts even more difficult. Plus I was still in dry fly mode, I’ll get all the nymphing I want starting very soon, I love to see the hits on top. Appreciate you watching and commenting.

I really injoy your videos so thank you very much for that as i do learn lots of bits from you. Two questions please, [1] as an all round fly rod for your river fishing what do you recommend? I'm guessing maybe 10' 3 or 4 weight but not sure. [2] a lot of the time you seem to prefer your drift across and down rather that a lot of guys that cast upstream and down if you know what i mean, do you find less drag and better presentation this way? thank you.
@pawoodsnwater7551
@pawoodsnwater7551 4 ай бұрын
Hello Myles! I prefer a 10’/4wt fast action rod for an all around combination rod. Now as far as nymphing and my technique, I’m really just the opposite of what you’re saying, in most situations I try to cast WAY upstream more than the average guy, always bringing in the slack line on its way down. Now, another difference in my drift is I usually incorporate the swing and the hang at the end of my drifts to extend my drift to it’s fullest potential for a hit. If you can, please search for my old video, Nymphing Strategies Part 3, in there I go into much detail about my technique, also checkout another old video called My Leader Setup, Going From Nymphing to Dries then back to Nymphing, another good instructional video on my technique.
