Shaun Fishes

Күн бұрын

The boys and myself have been trying to set a date to fish here for so long.
There are six lakes. And we are trying to cover Four. This is more of a Recce day. As we are coming back to fish for two days and wild camp over night.
It is absolutely stunning. Each lake contains its own species of Trout and the fish are out of this world. So be sure to Subscribe and check out the next visit.

Bob it was every thing that a true fisherman can want. Yes it was difficult. But that is how it is meant to be. All of us boys have spent most of our life on the rivers. And when we go out looking for Sea Trout and Salmon we except a few blanks and lower numbers. Yes there are those good days. But numbers are normally still small. Oh unless your in that third lake. Smaller and lots of them. Remote or what, we only seen one other person. Take care Bob, and thanks. Shaun.

A great place for sure. Did not mind how the fishing turned out. On these sorts of waters its on it or it ain't. But we are thinking the weather will settle soon, and that could better our chances. Mind Justin done well. But he always does. He is a class fisherman. Catch up soon mate. Thanks. Shaun.

We knew all of those conditions was on the cards for that day. But we had it planned. We just had to say that's the day, and what ever. But it was an amazing day. And we had a great time. But now we have an idea about the place. We was going to cover two days on this water very soon. Thing is we also had a few other trips planned. But due to weather we have been knocked back a bit. So we are tweaking the next trip to cover two venues. Snowdonia and the pools. Thanks for your support Mike. Shaun.

Stunning location Shaun. It's great to get another perspectivr sometimes and a reminder it's not always about catching fish. Wild trout and minimal tackle is another form of freeedom. We are often guilty of taking too much tackle, flies etc, and it bogs us down. To catch wild fish in conditions like that is a great result and one you don't forget in a hurry. Thanks for sharing your adventures Shaun. All the best mate.

Great to hear from you mate. Hope you are well. This was a cracking place. There are very few days when you can get numbers from these waters, and that includes the good days. Apart from us boys, we only seen one other person. We are really looking forward to the next trip. It was going to be two days on the same water. But we are running out of time. So at the end of the month some time we are heading out in search of the Black Finned Trout. There is only a couple of lakes where you can find them. And its somewhere in Snowdonia. Then we are camping over night and have a full day back on Teifi Pools. Us boys are used to fishing light, as we all come from the rivers. And a good few of the boys still cover the rivers for Sea Trout and Salmon. Thanks for the comment David. Shaun.

This was proper fishing in a historic landscape. Untouched by man and not a single stock fish. We only seen one other person all day. Methods to fish are totally different, and the key thing is stealth. Making sure you cover all water before you move in. Thanks mate. Oh the camera thing. My mates are good with camera's, they go through stuff with me often. But I forget. Nothing sticks any more. Its a shame as its a big part of doing what I do. But I am not going to worry about it. It will be what ever it is. Just OK. Thanks all the same mate. Shaun.

Hi Shaun great video again. I used to fish a tarn in the Pennines above Burnley it was lightly stocked but also wild fish, can I give a bit of advice that I learnt while I fished it. First of all never walk up to the water before standing back and casting to the water , also when fishing a point do the same stand back and cast along the edge round the point, the reason is that wild browns like to feed in the edges until they are disturbed. Also when fishing a bank always cast down the side you are fishing and work your way from the bank, most fish won’t be far out it’s not like fishing small fisheries for Rainbows you won’t need to cast far, us as light a rod you can I used 5wt even though the fishery was always blowing a gale, also try fishing into the wind especially if windy the fish will be not far out,also keep moving walk and cast wild fish are territorial and live in there own place. Use natural type flies as you do type of beetle, Zulus, Spiders try to find out what terrestrials are there, because the fish will probably rely on them, hope this is useful to you, I am jealous but my days fishing wild places have gone the legs have give up, still fish local Stillwater not the same. Regards Ian fro Merseyside.
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely spot on Ian. On the video it is not always apparent as to what we are doing. But Justin has told us about the approach and how to. You have told it almost word for word as he said. It is much the same as we do on the rivers. And all us boys was brought up on the rivers. Cover the water before you move in. Most of my good fish, including Salmon and Sea Trout, come from the margins. Like you missing out on these great waters. I have retired from the rivers due to the neglect by the authorities. Our rivers are on there last legs. This will never get fixed. They have been aware of the problems for over 25 years. But I really miss it. So the still water is a bit of a blessing, although it is a mile away from the real thing. Thanks for the tip Ian, cant wait to tell Justin that we have had a comment from a proper fisherman. Take care mate. Shaun.

In my fairy short ( but very successful ) experience on Welsh Llyns, I can tell you that the fish are not always close in as seems to be the incessant advice, certainly with the bigger fish. Another one I hear is that, you have to keep moving as wild trout will stay in same area. Well that's not entirely true is it? They are in a lake and have to go where the food is. If the winds blowing over there with tons of flies ending up on the water, they would be foolish not to move to get best positions. Just like with rainbows, certain areas will hold more fish. I once watched an angler not move for about an hour and catch wild fish after wild fish with fan casting. Obviously he'd found a fish holding spot. Lastly, I've been up to lakes in conditions like your video and with advice that your wasting your time and had some good fish and on Dryfly too. Fish might be more wary in bright calm conditions, but if there's some hatching or falling on to lake they will be there. They need food. I listen to advice but rarely take it now!
@shaunfishes101
@shaunfishes101 Жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathon, I hear what you are saying. And they are all good points. But if you had noticed that on this day there was nothing moving and no hatch. Brown trout are more territorial and yes will move for food. But what I did say and what we did do is to move to locate the fish. Cast move and always start at the margins. When you locate fish of course we would stay and fish. When there is no more interest, carry on cast and move. I have never said fish are always close in. And on the day Young Arran caught his good sized fish 60' to 70' out. And as for the dry fly. There was a renowned local dry fly fisherman who had sat on the waters edge telling us how difficult this week had been. What you may not be aware of, is the time that we was there. It was the hottest week of our summer. How was your fishing in that week. Thanks for the comment Jonathon and as I have said at the start. Good advice and point taken. Shaun.
@carlhughes9584
@carlhughes9584 Жыл бұрын
@@shaunfishes101 I know that wild trout are territorial, but they will still move around a lake to an extent. They are in a lake, not a river, so don't have luxury of a river current bringing them food. Bigger trout will definitely be further out most of the time in the day. I've seen this many times, where little trout are rising at the edges, where monsters are splashing out of range. These big fish can move in close at dusk/night time. I caught plenty of trout on Dryfly during the heat wave in a flat calm. Just depends on that day if there is a hatch to bring the fish up. I even caught two on one lake on a scorching hot day, that even books say is the norm to blank even in good conditions.
