The river Teifi is one of the longest rivers in Wales and one of its most beautiful. Yet despite the beautiful setting, this river and many others like it, are facing a barrage of problems, everything from sewage pollution to microplastics and slurry from farming, that's really choking the health of our rivers across the country. In this film, environment reporter, Madeleine Cuff travels the length of the river Teifi to find out some of the issues that waterways like this are facing and what we can do to protect them.
She meets aptly named local campaigner, Kim Waters who explains the pollutants entering the river from agricultural waste to p-fast chemicals and plastics, and how farming is responsible for between 50 and 60 per cent of nitrate pollution.
With a two-mile stretch of Teifi flowing through his land, Aled Lewis, a local dairy farmer, discusses the environmental challenges posed by livestock and how farmers are forced to increase their stock size, with knock-on ramifications for slurry waste. He also shows us the practices he's putting in place to protect the river on his land.
Fisherman Steffen Jones highlights the plastic waste problem affecting the river and shows us first hand just how much waste - mostly agricultural - can be found on one tiny stretch of this impressive river.
And finally, Nathan Walters who manages the Tefi Marshes nature reserve in Cardigan, Wales, explains the environmental damage caused by upstream pollutants as they culminate here at the mouth of the river Teifi.

I grew up on the Teifi and have watched its rapid decline over the last 20+ years. Glad to see this video and to see that there are others who want to do something about the absolute state the Teifi has become.

Such a shame, I own a stretch of this beautiful river, luckily in my stretch there are still 4lbs wild brown trout!
