Fly Fishing Utah's Green River

This was my first trip to one of America's most famous, most beautiful, and best fly fishing rivers: The Green. The video discusses the location of the Green, the scenic nature of the river and the surrounding area, and the nomenclature of the river's sections. It also shows the huge brown trout that are regularly caught there, often on big dry flies. The Green a special place, and fly fishing the Green is a special experience. I hope all of that comes through in the video and I hope you enjoy it.

Great video! I took my son there a couple of years ago. The flows were super high (5X normal). We were worried it was going to be blown out. Instead we nymphed with a pale worm pattern and pretty much caught a fish every cast. We competed to see who would catch more fish. He beat me with 24 the first day. So beautiful and such good fishing. Kind of like a Disneyland ride down the river. It looks so calm compared to when we were there. Not much of a town at night....

Yeah, I've heard it can be ridiculous. I had to scratch for every fish! But it is such a beautiful river, so far only the McCloud compares in my mind. Hopefully the next time I'll go it'll be an E-ticket (yes, I realize I'm dating myself by referencing E-tickets).

The bright green one is a 9' 5 wt Sage MOD. The dark green one is a 9' 6 wt Winston Air.

Teach your guide to release the fish properly. I have been a guide in the past so please be more respectful to the animals that earn you a paycheck and tips.

So, for backstory, you'll note that this is kind of a theme in the video. That's because I mentioned that I tend to be more gentle with the fish (you'll see in all my videos that I really do try to protect these creatures that I adore as much as possible while recognizing that fly fishing is inherently hard on hooked fish). He was like, "I'm a big proponent of just throwing them back." As a not-professional, I didn't feel it was my place to lecture him about what he does professionally. Also, I know it looks like I spend all my time fly fishing, but I really don't and a day like that where I get to have someone row me around a place like the Green is really special. I didn't want to spend it feeling like there was tension between my guide and me so I let it go. Not sure if that helps or hurts, but thought you might be interested in some context. I noticed many guides in Wyoming and Utah really don't care how they handle fish like the guides in Montana and Colorado do. Just my observation.
