I totally agree about fishing these flats ... as opposed to slapping foam around. I like stalking and fishing over active risers anyday.. I'll take 2 or 3 of these over a 50 fish day on hoppers, seriously get more enjoyment out of this. Great video, loved it.

Just did 2 days on the Bow and in 2 days walked 4 banks. It is an amazing river this time of the year for what we all love :) How has that water we rain into you on earlier this summer treated you?
@brianpeace75854 ай бұрын
@@jensenflyfishing tried it once more and found several skinny fish that looked like they were in rough shape and stressed so I've left it alone until temps come down. I did get one about 5 minutes after you left on that presentation I was using :) a nice 23" male. It was great to meet you guys on stream and get to chat for a while ...

@@brianpeace7585 sorry we got crazy busy for a couple weeks here. Between the heat, weeds, didymo coverage it's a miracle any bugs hatched this summer and those post-spawn rainbows just haven't had a chance to eat. Hopefully fall & winter offer a chance. And yeah, it was good to just sit and chat. When people are like-minded in finding one, it offers time to chat now & then :)

Wonderful! I'm like you, I far prefer the dry fly action downstream of the mouth of the Highwood. Not as many big fat fish down here, but they are far more willing to come up for a well-presented dry fly. A 16- to 18-inch rainbow in this water is most typical. Outstanding video, guys!
@jensenflyfishing2 ай бұрын
It being quieter and even when it isn't the usual groupings come in over 90 minutes and you have the entire river to yourself otherwise... and when you can cast dries or get up on banks and sight and film on a river to yourself to chunky trout, perfect! :)

That seems so amazing! Wow! I will be in Canada in July, British Columbia. Unfortunately I have only a spinfishing rod with me. Do you have any advice for me? 25 gr or 45 gr rod?

No idea re: spinning gear as we're a little too focused on the fly :) Heaps of options for you in BC tho!

Dave how do you find that 4 wt H3D - as you usually fish the H3Fs - thanks for another informative video again
@jensenflyfishing7 ай бұрын
So since this was shot last year we've kind of been 2/3 and 1/3 the newer H4 prototype and the H3, moving almost exclusively to the H4 since. As Orvis Field testing crew I've had the h4 in hand nearly 2 1/2 years now and honestly moved mostly to it once I got it :) THAT all said the 4wt H3F is perfect for this video situation, water types and fish. My preference is the H4 now as it kicks in a little more backbone than the H3 offered while not losing any flex point or energy to load - in fact it is more efficient and a noticeable touch to spot-on point & shoot. You can't go wrong with either my I'd look at the h4 with an eye to different lines. I use the Hydros Trout DT as we do a LOT of casting in tight where there is less fly line than leader length out of the rod.

@jensenflyfishing what kind of net do you use? It has a scale built in and Ive seen it in a few other videos, I think it’s the coolest thing ever.

It's neat - that's the Macleans trout weigh net, mid handle. They're new zealand based but have a distributor in n America

Why do you have such a long leader, also what is the formula you use for it?
@jensenflyfishing4 ай бұрын
Hi there... the why really comes down to "why wouldn't you use a long leader?" By not using one and being familiar with it and knowing how to apply it to every trout situation, you leave yourself wide open to spooking trout... isn't it best to be prepared to use it by default and be more successful from the get-go than to not use one by default and struggle to use one when you encounter shy trout? How people are taught to fly fish is incredibly backwards. We outline the how, why, etc in our Fly Fishing Trout Streams Master-Course that is part of our digital memerbership: www.patreon.com/jensenflyfishing/about
