hi there, I'm a stillwater trout angler who is longing to have a go at trout on rivers this year. I'm familiar with the techniques but not where to go. I live in lincolnshire so realistically id need to travel up to yorkshire for a game river. Any ideas where to start?

Hi, you could venture into wales or Yorkshire, either has some good trout fishing to offer. The river ribble is quite easy to get on with a few day ticket beats. Also look at the angling passport for the streams around forest of bowland. Mid wales there is the tyfi, dyfi and dysinny as well as Mawdack which gets good sea trout runs. Further north there is the dwyfor, glaslyn and seiont in north wales, all of which get migratory runs and a day ticket for 20 quid or less.

Yorkshire is a BIG county and the best rivers to fish are a long way from Lincolnshire. Depends on if you are looking for "day tickets" or club membership. And more importantly how much you are willing to pay.. The East Riding of Yorkshire has some great river fishing.. Look around Driffield. Moving further afield and the Yorkshire Esk may suit you.. But if you want the best, and are willing to drive miles, head for the Yorkshire Dales..
