Could you put a garbage bag inside so when it’s full you just cinch it up and toss. Then you have easier disposal?

Yes for sure!

The big tubs of pork rinds or cheese puffs are perfect to repurpose. And you get to eat the pork rinds and cheese puffs as a by product. (So to speak;) Oh, and I use dog poop and an egg as bait. It's organic, renewable, non GMO, and gluten free.

Last year I tried it using their bags, it quickly filled up with flies and maggots. meaing they are breeding in the bags. So I added some dish soap to the water which killed everything. I love your idea.

That is a good idea. I need to get a larger bucket like you have. We have used a smaller one and it just fills up so fast. After the first smelly packet to attract them we just started putting in water and then throwing in a small amount of meat that will decay and attract the flies. So far that has worked but it takes a couple of days to start attracting the flies.
@mickelsonfamilyhomestead Жыл бұрын
I have thought about doing the small piece of meat as well!

That fly bait is 20 bucks for a 1# jar.

You don't need that bait. You can easily make fly attractant that doesn't have an odor. Having this many flies and maggots might vary your results.

This is a great idea but hot glue doesn’t like water coat the cap in superglue
@mickelsonfamilyhomestead Жыл бұрын
Did not know that- it has been in the rain and held up so far but if it doesn’t I’ll use super glue!
@nolimitfano2 Жыл бұрын
I think the problem is when pressure is applied it might hold up for a while in this application

Do you find that after a few months the amount of flies you catch has reduced at all? I'm wondering if constantly taking them out of your area impacts the population or do more quickly move into the vacated neighborhood.
@mickelsonfamilyhomesteadАй бұрын
I did not see a reduced # of flies.

I just bought the reusable container from same brand but it’s too small after seeing all that many flies getting attracted to it, I have never used them before cause I never had a fly issue as this year it’s been horrible, I don’t have any farm animals but flies are getting inside my house every time we open the doors. Thank you for posting this video I’m going to try it. Just one question, does it have to be protected from rain ?
@mickelsonfamilyhomestead29 күн бұрын
Rain does get into it but not very bad and you can dump it after rain if need to.
