I use a very similar pattern all year round. Last week fishing at a tarn in the Lake district caught 3 nice fish using this. Locals mightily "pxxxxxd off. That a stranger comes along and catches off the surface. They were all thrashing the water using lures!!!

Hi Donald, thanks. Well the CDC is the main floating element of the fly. The little puff of CDC at the rear of the borax and the forward wing of CDC give this pattern an almost perfect presentation.

Barry - that's lovely. I find biots to be desperately fragile, and vulnerable to trout teeth. How would you feel about exchanging that with something like a pair of super-stretchy floss threads (chartreuse and brown)? The advantage of SSF, I find, is that it than be decreased and increased in size by tension changes, and it glosses well with resin or Hard as Nails. A bloody sight cheaper than biots, too.
