I love watching you tie your flies. Just started fly fishing and tying about 3 years ago. From midwest USA. Thanks for being you and sharing what you do.

I have never in my life seen anyone tie wings like that. That's amazing and something I will have to practice on. Thank you Davie for your time sharing this with all of us.

Down in New Zealand as a young fly fisherman, many years ago, the Blue Dun was my go to fly on new waters. It was always successful. Thank you for sharing your talents....

I finally got the wings to work using this technique. It is like winning a great prize when you learn to do something you have tried over and over and you are finally successful. I got it! Hopefully, it is like riding a bicycle, once learned never forgotten. Thanks for sharing. I learn so much from you I could never tell you all of it. I am so thankful for your skill and willingness to share it. All the best to you, Sean

Best Fly tying vids ever! After I watched Davie's Ginger quill video a few years ago I tied my first upwing dry fly and a few days later I caught my first brown trout on a dry I'd tied my self. Never stopped fishing dries or tying my own since then. Davie just makes it so simple.

Davie, Had to say how much I enjoy your videos. I know I've been tying at least as long as you have but I've picked up so many neat little tricks watching you. Thanks so much.

Davie, thanks so much for that. I didn't have the materials for this fly and to be honest we don't get a mayfly hatch around here but your suggestion to fold the spare bit back after tying in the wing has helped me a lot with my Black Gnats. Cheers again, Andy

I love the way you set the wing, and the turkey for the body I have never seen used before but it looks great! I was in a tying lull after a disappointing outing but this has me back a the bench. Great work as usual. Thanks

Hey Davie, now that I am getting some experience at the vise, I know just how difficult that manuver can be with the wings. You make it look easy. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I look at that wing application at least once a week. All the best, Sean

Great pattern I just watch again from a long time ago you didn't say what size hook you tied it on though. I ASSUME AT LEAST A 16 OR SMALLER FOR A BLUE DUN

Hey Davie, It took awhile but I found it again. I don't know how you can remember all the names and proceedures in the flies, I couldn't remember where I saw this and I watched it over and over again for weeks at a time. Someday, maybe (I am getting old!) I will be able to remember this for more than a few days. All the best, Sean

That's a beautiful fly Mr. McPhail. I noticed you put the wings on opposite from the way you put the wings on your parachute mayfly with the same style wings... is there a particular reason for that? I really like that wing style and seem to get a lot more fish with it, but for some reason it seems like it's more difficult for me finish the fly without the fibers of the wing separating. You make it look so easy!

@DavieMcPhail2 жыл бұрын
Hi Quincy M-e, I have tyed a few flies over the years with kapok dubbing but I don't think I have filmed using it though I have that many videos uploaded now I will probably be wrong so I'll have a look for you..I can't even find the dubbing as I have a feeling I may have gave it away to someone, I may buy some online as it's not that expensive..Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.. All the very best Davie

Hi Jeff, I'm sorry about the delay in getting back to you I have been away... Got another question, where on the Turkey did you get the feather you are using for the body fibers? The feathers I have appear to be too stiff for wrapping a body. Thanks and my best for sure. Jeff
@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, I got the feathers from a gentleman called John Mc Lain of feathermc.com they have very long and fine tips so it's easy to get a nice body like in the fly.. All the very best Davie...

what does this imitate
@DavieMcPhail7 жыл бұрын
Hi fly fishing, The Blue Dun is another classic trout dry fly pattern that was originated to imitate the many mayfly hatches as grey/blue dun works especially in low light rather than the brighter colour which would normally represent these flies, there's a famous saying bright fly for a bright day and a dull fly for a dull day.. All the very best Davie...
