Hello Jim: I have tied flies for about 5yrs. now and I enjoy this activity immensely. In that time I have tied a good number of different flies including the Prince Nymph which is a fairly simple fly to tie. Occasionally I tie flies as demos for beginners and that is a little different than tying just for yourself. I very much enjoyed your video and I envy you for the layed back down to earth manner that you are able to do your demo with. Thanks a lot, greetings, A.K.

Hi Jim, I decided I'd best come watch you tie a Prince Nymph, since I was just starting to tie one & was struggling with the collar/beard. Thanks for the clarity of your tie. It's always good to see that even Jim the Fly Guy has a bit of hassle with peacock herl or other materials. Just shows your human-ness & makes me feel a bit less a nerdo! Thanks Jim, really enjoy watching you tie. Bill

Can you use a rooster saddle feather for this fly? I'm having trouble getting it to lay right. Thanks. Love your channel!

Awesome video I'm going to Tie some up this week my question Jim Misiura do i need to use the lead i am looking for weightless patterns because i have a ton of bead heads and weighted nymphs but looking for a different option. any tips thanks for the amazing videos.
@TheFlymanJim
@TheFlymanJim 8 жыл бұрын
+kgrantmckeown No you don't need to use weight. But this pattern is best fished on the bottom. But will certainly work without weight.

Thanks much Jim; I'd been assuming one or two things in a different order, or at a different tie angle, and the results were horrible. Making a few small changes per your tie method should do the trick. I need to tie up a bunch of these because I had recent terrific luck with some, and they were all wrecked or stolen by those danged huge thieving rainbows...great idea adding glue under the fragile herl to help it hang in there. I know of some folks who swear by the modernized "formerly known as" version, which has red and sparkle in it. Do you favor the traditional? Which would be the first one you'd tie on?
@TheFlymanJim

I don't have much preference as I don't fish nymph enough to have one.

You can use a Rooster hackle, but it is better to use a soft hackle. Soft hackles give more life in the water.

What size tinsel are you using? Thanks for the great tutorial.
@TheFlymanJim
@TheFlymanJim 7 жыл бұрын
It depends on the size hook. Tinsel comes in different sizes. Most nymphs are tied with #14 or #16 tinsel, Depending on how much you want to show, for the prince I like to go smaller.

Hello Jim. I'm new to tying, and was just wondering where you get your materials? Thanks

I get my material from several places mostly on-line. Try Anglers Addiction dot com they have decent deals.

I like Silver beads for the prince but I'm sure gold will work just as well. You should also try the Fancy Prince, it has a Golden Pheasant Crest tail replacing the goose biiot. Something about the yellow color just sets them off.
