Tie lots of these in black , olive , brown and grey mostly on TMC 200R # 22 . Also do annelids this same way without the gills on 200R #16 and 14 in red . The midges work great especially on tail waters but really anywhere there are midges . The annelids work very well in high water conditions anywhere you have aquatic worms . Keep up the good work ,It's always a pleasure to see what you come up with :-)

Hi Mike, Could I ask a favor? Would you measure the length and gap of your # 22 hooks for me? I am trying to relate my old hook size numbers to what you are using. It seems that a # 22 from when I bought mine @ $1.25 per 100 is quite a bit smaller than modern # 22s. Thanks! Hank

Hi Hank the TMC 200R in a # 22 hook eye to bend 8/32 gap 4/32 the one I use the most though is the size # 20 this is a little longer and a bit easier for tying D rib , midge tubing etc it is 12/32 long same gap . These hooks work really well for small dries also the are very light wire . I use them for BWO emergers and duns . There are other manufacturers who make a similar hook these just happen to be what I use.

Hi Mak I am 69 and you are right they are small , have to were magnifiers to get er done . It always amazes me when I stomach pump a fish and see the midges in them , they often make my # 22 look huge:-)

Simple patterns are the best. Nicely done Mak. Since this fly isn’t weighted would you fish in surface film or put in tandem with another weighted fly (nymph)?

Where do you buy your peacock hurl from? as it seem to be very good quality.
@hankvana2149
@hankvana2149 5 жыл бұрын
Mak wraps a nice herl. Good quality herl is a pleasure to use but more importantly is the direction in which you wrap it. The fibers are off-center on the quill and there is a definite top, bottom, left and right of the herl - if wrapping multiple herls make sure they are all from the same side of the feather stem. For the densest body, you want the quill to lead and the herl fibers to be on the trailing edge so they don't get wrapped down. (You see the same thing on biot bodies). Hard to explain, take a close look at a herl under a magnifying glass and you will see what I mean. Hope this helps! Hank

Makflies I find the peacock from hareline and other fly tying brands are very poor quality, but there’re charging premium prices, which is not fair really.
