thanks for having me on your show Tim! After watching the video I would like your viewers to know that the wing was just a little thicker than I usually tie and also was a little long, it should end at the tail or just shy of. Guess I was distracted by all the camera gear...lol

I been tying and fishing these since I bought a 1/2 doz of them from Randall Kaufmann back in 1980, I still have one or two of those, Kaufmann fly Shop was a real candy store back in the day, one of the best fly shops back then! Fished Oregon a lot while I lived there in the first 5 years of the 1980's!

Thanks for the comment George Semel! You have incredible stories that connect to so many topics, and I appreciate you sharing on my videos. Was there a color that they really seemed to recommend for this pattern? TC

thanks for the tips on the wing / tail - a lot of videos leave that information out leaving them to splay all over the place haha.

I use the same technique on this pattern to keep the wings from flaring too much. Funny thing is, when I'm out on the river and the stoneflies are out, I tie on the fly and then intentionally muss up the wing a bit so it more closely resembles the distressed stonefly on the water.

Hey Tim and Don, Sometimes if a wing stands up like that for me and I want it lower, I put my index finger on the top and press down and forward to put a slight bend in the deer hair and it lowers it significantly especially the top fibers. Try it sometime. All the best and great fly. Sean

Thanks for the suggestion, Sean; it seems like there are an endless amount of techniques for deer hair! I'll be sure to try your method sometime; thanks and I hope all is well with you. Tim

Tim, I know I am seeing the stimulator video 5 years late, but so it goes. I started tying the stimulator about a month ago. I just hadn't heard of that concept in over 50 years of fishing. We had some great weather out here in NE Indiana today. I tied on one of my stimulators plus a trailer #12 wooley bugger. Everything worked fine for about a minute, then both flies sunk out of sight. Could you give me some ideas that may have caused my stimulator not to say buoyant. Wish I could send you pictures of my flies.

Hi Kip, and welcome to Stimulator fun! They are great flies, though I don't fish them too often...hence why Don tied this one. ;-) It's tough to say what caused it to sink, but perhaps the hackle collapsed, causing the body to get waterlogged. Ensure you're using quality saddle hackle that can support the large fly, and also opt for a standard wire hook...anything larger will add excess weight. You can also add some floatant to help, something like: amzn.to/2z677CO OR amzn.to/2zdEzqW Hope that helps, and shoot me an email for other suggestions: tcammisa@gmail.com Thanks! What size hook is the green stimulator fly featured in this video ?
@TimCammisa9 жыл бұрын
+james gillis Hi James, and to be honest, I don't remember the exact size. If I had to guess, I would say it was around a size 10. Tim
