Meet Inchy the Inchworm.
Inchworms are the larvae of geometer moths, which belong to the Geometridae family. Their common names are measuring worms, loopers, and spanworms.
Inchworms are named for their unique movement style, which involves looping and lunging. This is because they lack appendages in the middle of their bodies, causing them to move like they are measuring the ground. Inchworms have three pairs of front legs and either two or three pairs of rear pro legs.
They typically live for one year, from egg to death, but the development can vary depending on the variety.
Many fly anglers fish with inchworm fly patterns throughout the summer and fall. They are an extremely productive lure through those months.

Absolutely incredible... using a BRUSH for material made my day. I am constantly looking at everyday items for the same purpose. My wife has stopped asking why, and now shows me things I haven't seen. Thank you for being so inspirational. Nick in Redfield Arkansas.

Thank you. I've been tying waxworms, craneflies, and inchworms with the broom bristles since the late 1990's. My only claim to fame for creating my own fly tying technique 👌

I was curious to know a good broom to buy to achieve those prolegs for larva? Any help would be much appreciated @flytyingzone

I sell the legs on my store castersonlineflyshop.com. They're called Japanese Nymph Legs. Or, I can tell you the hand broom if you'd prefer.

@@flytyingzonedavehise I’ve used the Japanese’s legs before but it gets too pricey while fulfilling large orders. I use the brand WET hair brush for black legs and they work phenomenal but I need green in the repertoire for lithophanes.

@covaviewsluis965 The legs I use now are definitely from a hand broom. Japanese legs are styrene, and I'm not sure what material the hand broom bristles are. I like the broom bristles because they aren't as soft. Look up Vikan 38906. They are a hard bristle. The Vikan 30886 is a medium bristle.
