FLY TYING - TOP HAT , OLIVE SUSPENDER BUZZER.

Absolutely killer fly. I was fortunate enough to meet Alec today at Chatton where he kindly gave me one of these flies. I had 15 fish on it in three hours before losing it - to a fish of course. Can’t wait to start tying some myself when I get home. A real pleasure to meet you Alec and thank you so much for all your help and advice.

This is one of the top flies at Coldingham Loch. I have not tied my own flies for over 50 years. But thanks Alex after this excellent video I will be tying my own top hats now

Getting to be a habit. Another successful day today. While others were struggling on buzzers I tied on a couple of your Top Hat Buzzers in # 16 and had several good rainbows to net. Thanks again.

Great news Len , as long as the trout are feeding on buzzers in the surface film , you will have fantastic sport on the top hat suspender buzzers 👍🎣🐟

Hi Alec, another great looking fly. I tied up some of the tungsten bleeding buzzers the other week but never got a chance to try em, so i tied a couple of these top hats today too. Ready to go get em tomorrow 🎣🎣 watched the top hat master class too, thanks for all of your great content 👍👍

Hi Alec, had a good day out last week, your tungsten bleeding buzzer pattern landed me 2 nice fish! Sadly wasn’t a day for the top hat, not a lot of activity on the surface and a bit too much wind. Seemed the fish were deeper. Landed 4 overall so was a nice day out!

Well done Jimmy , yes some days they want the buzzers deeper down , it needs to be the right conditions for them to feed in the surface film 👍🎣🐟

Alex, how do you get your foam tube so smooth. I use the upavon cutters but my tubes look rough.

I dip the cutter in a small mixture washing up liquid and water after a couple of cuts , seems to work for me 👍🎣🐟

Hi David , it is high density wapsi foam blocks, which I cut myself into cylinders. You can get them online 👍🎣🐟

Can't get my tippet to sink no matter what I try it floats any suggestions alec

Are you using fluorocarbon tippet ?? Use mud to degrease the tippet from the fly to about 8ft up the tippet, make sure you get no floatant on the tippet next to your fly , You also have an option to use a very small nymph up your tippet , washing line style , this will sink your tippet and also gives you two options to catch , on the dry fly or the nymph 👍🎣🐟

The hook looks much bigger than a 16? Hard to tie foam onto a 16.

It only looks big John because the camera is very close up , I actually tie the top hats on 18's no problem 👍🎣🐟

I fish suspender buzzers regularly and tie loads in 18 and 20 no problem, I've even tied up some size 30 on gamakatsu c12-bm hooks and can't wait to get out and try them when the tiny midge are hatching
