The traditional PT had the wing case. Thus is the second fly I learnrd to tie 50 yrs ago and it had the wing case.

I've been tying for 40 years. Some flies catch fisherman others catch fish. Usually the simpler, spiky looking flies do the best. I fish a very similar pheasant tail.

I use a fingernail clipper for cutting wire instead of scissors. That saves wear and tear on the scissors and is way cheaper.

Great fly, and like all of your video's, very well done. I'm curious though, since copper wire disappears into peacock herl anyway, why not wait until you have wrapped with the herl before bringing the copper wire forward so the herl is also protected by the wire, instead of the additional thread wraps?

I wrap the wire through peacock herl when I tie mine. You can see the copper a bit, not that it matters a ton to the fish. I also use the pheasant fibers to make a wing case and legs like it's traditionally tied.

You should check out rite bobbins there pricey but they allow you to set your thread very specifically and you can use any kind of thread they have very tight settings for streamers wayyy tighter than other bobbins

We have them and sell them. They are definitely a good product, but not my favorite.

@@FlyFishFood oh why’s that? I’m just wondering cause personally I love mine it’s the ceramic tip one and I can still tie flies in size 20 (just saying that cause I know some people don’t like the length)

They aren’t symmetrical so when I spin the bobbin you flatten thread they don’t spin well at all. I’d much rather control the tension with my palm as well.

Be better if you put barb fully in vise so as not to cut your line

Anthony T actually the barb and point shouldn’t be put fully into the vise that severely limits the room you have to tie in materials. It’s really easy to avoid cutting your thread.
