It is nice to see a good fishing film about fly fishing in New England. The colors of a New England winter are so familiar to me and seeing Sam out there catching some nice Browns warmed my soul. Thanks Sam.

I live in CT, Its an hour drive to the West Branch for me. I been fishing there for almost 40 years now. Its a tough water! Some days I do well other days the only fish I will get is the one that I buy at the fish monger's. The Sulpher Hatch is my favorite time- The bugs are around for a long time and the fish will rise to them. And the weather is nice too. Winter is tough. I don't fish it much in winter, I tie flies . I will leave it alone from November the end January. I like fishing the little black stone flies, they start showing up in toward the middle to the end of Feb. It's been very warm this fall, and its forcasted to be fairly warm this week. We need rain. Will be on the river this week.

Great vlog, great scenery, great close ups!…any time on a lake, river, stream or babbling brook fly fishing is fine by me…I’ve been fly fishing for trout since the mid 70’s and enjoyed your vlog, you just got yourself a new subscriber from sunny Southern California. 🤙🏼

Chilly river days got nothin on Sam! Winter in New England is a special kind of magic that brings me back to my childhood. Such a calming light and sound to the river. Would love to see more from this guy again soon.

Great video. It is not an easy river to fish and yes, even in winter you will not be alone. But patience and effort can be rewarded. I have been there for a few Hendrickson hatches and it is amazing. Biggest trout ever I ever caught there was over a July 4th weekend.

I finally gave this river a second chance . Like many, I got turned off by the snarkery. I am a catskill snob. This vid was well done, capturing the river's essence. Last year I got an 18" "survivor" brown on an Invaria spinner, in the last 30 seconds of daylight. While semi- stockers , as fingerlings, my God, that fish fought! And my waders leaked . I am 62 now, and don't bother with nymphing anymore, because I now hate re-tying on teeny weenie nymphs and leaders. So yeah , one fish on a stonefly dry, or better yet a BWO. On 7X . Sigh, where are my glasses? Then we hit the Gen Store for their amazing sammiches , served by the cutest girls, but get there before they close. And have a coherent pre- beer protocol going for the truck cooler.

Learned to fly fish there in 2006 when I lived down the street from it in Burlington. Never stopped. Still one of my favorites.

You passed by so much great water to get there. The Farmington is great but only when the wild waters warm too much. Oh by the way if you change your rod of choice you would get better at nymphing. Love the videography!

Only been fly fishing for a few months, fell in the Hammonassett River in Killingworth a month ago, broke my ankle bad, had to be rescued by the 911 folks, thanks, EMS people in Killingworth, Was looking forward to snagging my first trout now that it is cooling off. Hoping my ankle is healed by the spring so I can get back to it. Nice video.

Nice Film. I live 10 minutes from the Farmington. Been fly fishing the river for 49 years. The end of April until the beginning of May is a good time to fish the Hendrickson hatch which happens in the afternoon. Then about 2 weeks later the Sulphur hatch usually happens. On cloudy days try BWOs. Look me up if you want.

Nice vid, and nice fish, Just a thought.... Noticed in each of your outings you weren't wearing a wading belt. Might not be a bad idea to toss one on, especially during cold winter months. A simple piece of gear that could end up saving your life should you take a spill. Cheers.

There are definitely some holdovers on the Farmington, but "Wild" Brown Trout??? LOL. C'mon man, have some integrity - or at least learn something about the fishery.

wild simply means they were born in the wild so yes he is most likely correct

@TakeMetotheRiver. Your definition is correct. However, the Farmington is heavily stocked multiple times per year. So on this river, he is most likely wrong.
