Nice lovely walk again Marcus, I listened to you and watched the time team tv program, fascinating! your quiet walk was a frontier area with a lot of "trouble" between the Welsh and the Normans, difficult to imagine it then, compared to what you have shown, this is great stuff from you.

I was once fishing for pike in Kenfig pool when I was about 13 and the biggest pike I have ever seen swam around me, I was in shorts and had waded out to waist-deep. Once it swam away I was only fishing ankle-deep. Great video, brought back memories, thank you.

More happy Childhood memories. I remember my Dad telling me about the drowned village and that you can sometimes hear the church bells ringing in the currents, What a shame that it isn't true!
@flydriveexplore3 жыл бұрын
That's the old legend, I talk about it in my Ghosts of Glamorgan video. The actual old church was St James's near Kenfig Castle, some of it was moved before it got buried by the sand and is now part of the church in Pyle.

In the books that were written about Cenfig I seem to remember there was a hermit who’d made his home out of old timber he’d found on the dunes.

Boats floated in the early '60s..There used to be a platform where you stand in the intro..we'd run and dive in 64...never forget the horse flies, they were monsters. The reeds too were overwhelming,

My childhood, I remember it before they built the road to carry the great boulders and those vehicles were massive We thought road a scar, thrilled it’s finally disappearing
@flydriveexplore4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the dunes have reclaimed most of the road. The only small parts you can see are now part of the Wales Coastal path.

When we lived in Wales we used to go swimming at Kenfig Pool. What is a pill box used for or what was it used for. I really enjoy your walks and all the stuff you do in Porthcawl, many thanks.

Use to go swimming in Kenfig Pool when I was a kid. Funny use to go swimming in south cornelly quarry as well lol. Funny that wreck I always thought it was the san tamapara. Should have visited the donkey drop. The woods on the dunes are quite creepy they seem like prehistoric wood cause of location and salt air.
@flydriveexplore4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. People still go swimming at Kenfig Pool, there were quite a few people in the water by the time I got back to the pool. The Samtampa was on Sker point itself, I went there a few weeks ago and I made a video on how to find the commemorative plaque and you can still see the engine at low tide.

I would say the nearest is about half a mile at the most. Although, the access can be quite muddy and there's not a paved path to it. The reserve is now under new management, if you want more info check here facebook.com/Kenfig-Nature-Reserve-173145709364643/ Although the wardens Twitter account seems more up to date and you can contact them on there twitter.com/kenfigwarden

I've recently discovered your videos, I must say you've really grabbed my interest. Great work. I had to giggle when you mentioned the nudist area on the beach, I was walking that stretch of it with my girlfriend a few years back. I remember looking up and seeing a man walking over the sand while giving a woman a piggy-back. They were both wearing no clothes. I had to shake my head and rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't hallucinating..sure enough, it was real. By now, the lady was facing us, doing star jumps in the nude. I couldn't believe it. ..That was the moment we discovered we were in a nudist area 🤣
