Newcastle my literal playground. I spent my early years of life growing up in Park Street. I'd walk up Newcastle Hill, me and my partners in crime would clime higher and higher on those loose outcrops of stone. They look just as inviting now as they ever did! The woods, Bluebell woods, you walked through next to Newbridge fields was often concluded by a shimmy, or a walk, if you was tall enough to reach the top grab points, across a waste pipe that used to cross at the end of the woods. One more field and then it was the dipping bridge for drops off the side to cool off in the hot summers. Some of us even did forward rolls out through the sheep dipping points, shouting blahh or bleating the best we could to make our mates laugh. We'd always hit Merthyr Mawr village because at that time the new suspension bridge was at least 1hr of fun if you had at least 10 of you. Then yet another field some stepping stones and on to some more dangerous climbing at the castle. Then the walk home, a wagon wheel chocolate treat and later some supper. Kids have it better now. I'm told. Another lovely video. Diolch yn fawr iawn.

Another fantastic vid, even though it's 4 years old, very informative, (I had no prior knowledge of its contents), just a thing, there seems on the map? to be a path on the west bank almost at the dipping bridge, which seems to go beside Chapel hill, a remains of an old chapel? that path seems to end near Merthyr Mawr, why did you not take that, path looks shorter?

Great video. Did I read somewhere that Wales has more castles per area than anywhere else on the planet?
@flydriveexplore3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I think that's correct as there are over 600 castle sites in various states from large stone structures to just grassy mounds.
