About to open a pkg this week with my first fly rod kit - Been watching fly stuff for couple months. This is by far, the best quicky on getting the line out, one of the things I was most confused about. I've had all the other basics drilled into my brain it's become instinctive. 10 and 2, that's not hard to remember as I'll date myself, those numbers were also important in our youth for another reason in high school. This filled in some big holes. I'm sure there's other great ones out there, but I just haven't seen them. Learned a lot across a broad range, but not getting the line out, the way you explained it. Sometimes, it just takes the right version to click I guess. I feel I'll be pretty decent off the go with the amount of time I've spent going to KZbin Fly Fishing school. Great job man!

Excellent presentation! Well explained. Dan, do you fish with other techniques besides fly fishing? I am asking about using spin reel, bait casting or closed reel fishing? Was told that one may catch more fish and a lot more easily using these other techniques……that fly fishing was too slow and too difficult a technique (I.e. getting line caught in trees often. Does not happen with the other techniques.). Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you.

Same literally yesterday I was practicing fly fishing and just wasn’t catching anything and ended up switching to my spinner and caught 6 brook trout.
@Eclipse19885 ай бұрын
Yep! And I've commented about this on other videos, myself. A big BIG tip is to get over the "whip". As spinners, we're used to using speed and strength to load the rod and sent it way out there (at least I was). It's about going nice and easy. I forced myself to slow down and relax with it. And wait for that line to load behind you. The line itself will carry the fly out, not your force. In my opinion, it feels like the physics really takes place between your rod and fly line itself, and not you trying to launch a lure 80 feet. Keep it up. I literally put all my gear down and exclusively fly fished for a week and the progress is beautiful

How much of the fly line is hanging from the end of the rod when you cast? Is the leader dragging in the water?

@@FlyFishDan Thankya. Somehow I managed to snap the leader on a cast. Not sure how I pulled that off.

I like to false cast a few times to better aim my distance I want to place my fly. I like to work sideways with the floats and just shooting a bunch of line out is not going to get my fly to land at the exact distance my target is. So false casting and slowly feeding line out with each cast works best for me on rivers with precise landing zones.
