We received lots of comments tell us they prefer our newer style narrating the videos instead of just using subtitles. And while just like many, I personally like the classic Tripreports with subtitles very much, our analytics tell us you guys actually prefer the narrated videos. However, narrating every video, fitting it with plenty of graphics and a dedicated intro is too much work to apply it to every video. So with this video I wanted to see how you guys enjoy a version that’s not as in-depth, with fewer graphics and such, which was less work. That way we could potentially narrate most, if not all videos, with the best episodes still appearing in our Brutally Honest format with animations and maps once a week. Let me know what you think! 😄

I only flown onboard the 737-200 once. Back in March 2013, 5 years before i was officially an aviation enthusiast, my family and i accidentally end up flying onboard the Boeing 737-200. That day we are heading home back to Jakarta from Semarang, Indonesia after 2 days of vacation. I was actually still a kid at the time and don't know much about aviation and that means i don't know about bucket reverser on the 737-200. The airline that flown us back to Jakarta is Sriwijaya Air, which is one of my favorite airline in Indonesia. I was seating in the aisle seat near the front of the plane and my god the sound of Pratt & Whitney engines are awesome when the aircraft starts it's takeoff roll. Never forget that experience. Fun fact : According to my analysis as of October 2023, 61 Boeing 737-200 are still in active service

A trip down memory lane - I worked for Britannia Airways in the UK in the 80s - we were the first airline globally to hit 1 Million flying hours on the 737 - we had an all 737 fleet before adding 767s (and I think we were the first in the UK to do so). We had lots of 200s and they look so small now - we had 130 seats in an all economy 3 - 3 layout. These days that's really small! The A220 has more than that. When smoking was allowed on planes, the air was changed much more rapidly - tbh the smoke just went - it didn't hang around at all. Those were the days - no air rage, drink and a smoke lol - I flew back from Oz in the smoking section (rear) of a KLM 747-400 - everyone smoked but it wasn't smoky. I'm a non smoker these days and am sure its better not to smoke at all - but it was fun back then when anything went...

I flew in one of these once, coming home from a contract in the Inuit villages of Northern Quebec around 2010. I have to say I was a little 'surprised' when I saw the old cigar-shaped turbojet engines of eons gone by but I would later learn that these are mainly operated in places with runways that aren't necessarily top-shape. IE the much smaller diameter of the old style engine is less prone to ingest rocks, foreign objects etc... We flew in the back half and cargo up front.

Venezuelan airlines are like flying museums as they use very old airplanes. Once I jumped into an Aserca DC-9-30 and while looking at the tag plate, the first officer standing at the door told me, yep, it’s older than me. The plane was from 1969 and it was 2004.

Fantastic and nostalgic post, thankyou! That takes me back to my heyday in the airline industry here in Australia. Ansett Airlines of Australia operated many B737-200 and B727-200 models with the famous JT8D engines. The 727 was my favourite aircraft, such an exquisite design with the 3 x Tri-set JT8Ds mounted at the rear and the in-built air-stairs under the tail. Gorgeous! The DC9 also of course was a very attractive airliner. The B737s were nicknamed "Fat Alberts" here in Australia, as they were kind of short, wide and very cute. The 737-200 engine size to aircraft body size (visually) was very appealing to the eye. So sad they are all gone nowadays. I appreciate the step back in time to (in some ways) better days of aviation - at least here in Australia, when we had Ansett and TAA (later renamed Australian Airlines, then finally QANTAS for domestic). Ansett was indeed a very fine airline that I still morn the tragic loss of post 9/11. I too flew on a 737-200 with gravel kit - it was a Alaska Airlines "milk run" service from Vancouver up to Juneau in 1988. About 3 or 4 take-off/landings on various runway surfaces. What a GREAT airline and cabin crew, I remember it all these years later. The gravel kit fascinated me.... what an awesome little jetliner :)

I worked for 25 years in the world of aviation and I never had the audacity to travel on a Venezuelan airline, except Viasa,✈✈ (not to be confused with Conviasa) which was something else and it was a different time in Venezuela. You are truly brave to fly a line like Avior and I congratulate you for that.💪💪 I would never do it hehehehe. In any case, Thank you for coming to Venezuela and showing a little of what is offered, I'm sorry for the conditions of the airports..🛫🛬....I hope you had a good stay and thank you again for the beautiful report. Last flight on a -200 for me was from Bangkok to Buri Rum in northeast Thailand. One way was ex-Metro Jet (US Air) still in that livery and disembarkation was through the forward right galley door. Phuket Air actually painted one or two -200s in their own livery and we returned to BKK on one of them. Window seats towards the rear both ways for the reverser view of course. I love the sound of the old Boeing hydraulics too…. The 737-300/400 sounded the same as did the 757, all of which are difficult to fly on now. Great video and very jealous of your trip!

Loved those JT8Ds and that wing. Many trips on them in Canada with Transair, Nordair, Pacific Western and Canadian.

I always loved looking forward to flying to Hawaii to fly the -200 from Honolulu to Kona on Aloha. Tried to always get tickets next to the wings to see the reverse thrust!

There’s still many active 737-200s in West Africa I believe. I see them in airports in Congo and Gabon all the time.

Great video! I’ve personally only flown on a 737-200 once. The good part about it was that I flew into Tegucigalpa on the Aviatsa 737-200, there’s no other comparable combination these days. (If you didn’t know Tegucigalpa is one of the most challenging airports to land in and 737-200s these days are incredibly rare.)

Flew a few times with 737-200 on the now defunct airline Braathens SAFE. It was awesome, jet engines under the wings and not in the rear? Wow! Most common around here were Douglas aircrafts, flew on DC-9 more often, then later MD81 and MD90.

Those of you who are so young don't have the benefit of many memories. The 737-200 was a fine plane. I flew many miles on them. They aren't a look back into ancient history to me, but rather just one of the many aircraft I've had the opportunity of flying on.

Actually, having flown many times on the -200 back in the 70s 80s and 90s, that interior to me looks *modern* for a -200, and I believe those side panels are actually the design introduced for the -300 in 1985, and are a re-fit. The cabins of the original -200s were quite different...

David, since you were traveling in Venezuela, I think it would've been a good idea to travel further south to Brazil and fly on carriers like GOL, Azul, and LATAM.
