My dear working line Finnish Lapphund was directly imported from Finnland. I picked him up one day before we left to bond with him. He was the most "perfect" dog I ever had (easy to train, not a single issue ever) and the next day he was in a little soft kennel placed right beside me (he was a little over the max weight scale for being allowed in the people area but the airport lady who managed it was so nice and lied about his weight 🥰 first I felt so bad for having this little sweetheart go through the flight (about 2 hours from Finnland to Germany) but it was just me 😂 the little puppy just sit there patiently and was quiet the entire flight. When I put him out the kennel after landing, he just wagged his tail and was all calm. I miss him so much, he was my souldog 😢

Excellent tips. I'd like to add keeping a triple copy of paperwork. One stashed in your luggage, one to keep with you, and one to give the officials. Yes, they may give it back... or may set it down somewhere and move on to someone else. It can be difficult to get their attention to get it back, especially if you have a flight to catch. I used to fly my 11 lb.maltese-mix annually from Central America to the US over a 10 year period . We had officials inadvertently keep paperwork. Thanks to me keeping the originals, I let them keep it, no worries. Also (and things may have improved) verify regulations you read on the website by following up with a phone call -- the two don't always match! Call again the day before departure to make sure there are no new policy changes. Keep a journal of the date, time and name of the person you spoke with. My documentation saved my girl from being put in cargo in 90 degree temperatures. The airline representative actually explained the situation to the pilot, who gave the nod to letting my dog be in-cabin despite the recent change in policy that had not been posted to the website. And, pay attention, hold on to your dog and DO NOT let it be put through the powerful security x-ray (I saw this happen a couple times as clueless owners let their pup be x-rayed like any old carry on). I took my dog out and held her while the bag was being scanned. Keep a leash available in case you have to put her down to produce your paperwork again. Also, entering the US they will throw out your small amount of dog food saved for tonight's meal due to contamination concerns. I could go on and on, but suffice to say keep your wits about you and over prepare! 😊 🍪🍪🍪🍪🍪👍

While my dog is big and has to go in cargo, this was very helpful. We just bought and read your ebook that you mentioned and linked and that was SUPER helpful! Thank you!

Thank you for posting this.... I live in NYC and I'm planning to go to Italy for 3 months with my 40lb, 18month old Labradoodle. The thought of putting her in cargo causes me so much stress but I can't imagine how stressful it would be for her to leave her that long with a sitter. Also, to be honest, I don't want to be without her for that long and I want to take her on this adventure with me. I spoke to the vet who assured me he's done this many times without issue and will prescribe a "chill protocol" to help her anxiety. The thought of putting her in a stressful situation brings tears to my eyes but I'm hoping this chill protocol will make her relaxed and it will be 1 direct flight.

Susan is absolutely right about doing your research and preparing the dog for the flight. I saw a dog denied boarding because, when standing, its ears stuck out through the top of the carrier. I understand the airline was trying to have the best interest of the dog in mind, but it certainly was a challenging situation.

Thank you for this very helpful video. I will be moving from the US to Spain next year and of course I don't want to leave my dogs behind. I already purchased the e-book, but I'm still very anxious about the whole thing because 2 of my dogs are close to 15 yrs old and have never experienced anything like this. Also only one of the old ones is small enough to fly in cabin. Of course I'll be preparing with a lot of crate games, but is there anything else that would be helpful in preparing seniors for an adventure like this?

Loving the puppy podcasts 😊 I've put my name down for a puppy foster home. Waiting for my interview on the 1st October, then home check and 🤞I'll be accepted as a foster puppy mum. Lots of games to help my 6yr old dog at home now. Don't want him upset. Gated community, crates and puppy pens. 😊

This is good stuff. We just vacationed in France / Switzerland. And I missed my puppy tremendously - and the doggie day care was Very Expensive. I could have had her with me for that $$$. (do you think they can be content on a 10 hour flight?)

I have a service dog, so he can travel in the plane without being in a crate, but would need to prepare for vibrations in the plane and curl in a small space. I am in Recallers but have not worked through the entire program yet. Would your book help us?
