I wonder....... do you even have a clue, how incredibly fortunate you are? This is a "perfect" example, showing 2 hours of the greatest flying experience a man can have, with just his taildragger, clean calm fat air and fluffy grass pillows of runway. I know most that watch this will not understand how "Perfect" of a day this was.

I do pal, 800 hrs of tail wheel time, mostly on grass. Flown lots of planes from Pt-17 Stearman to Falcon 20 jets, but this kind of flying, in this video, is the best.

I love flight videos of any kind. Normally I prefer to hear cockpit audio but the was awesome. I loved listening to the sound of your engine as you entered different stages of flight. I fly a twin engine with all the bells and whistles but I really want to fly something like you have someday for the sheer enjoyment and visceral experience. To me, flying a cub is what real pilots do. Not knocking what I do. I absolutely love it. But what you do seems a bit more real.

Thanks for the comment! I too like the engine noise, there is a little more with my plane as it has an Atlee Dodge "hot rod" muffler - no baffles in the muffler, gets rid of an expensive AD at each annual. If I had radio /intercom recording there would be silence - there is no one to talk too at grass farm strips!

This is a quality Cub and I like the panel. But I see two issues for me. One, get the tail up. You’ve got to get the tail up so you’ve got rudder control.The second issue is landing three point. Get that stick back and don’t let it bounce around. Hold it back until you shut it down. Also, why no flaps when landings ? That’s where a Cub performs. Also on take off and pop two clicks in just before you rotate. Fun fun stuff Maynard!
@Cubonaut875
@Cubonaut875 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The bouncing around you see is a rough runway - I pick the landing - three point or wheel depending on the runway/landing zone surface. There are some runways where you have to "stick"" the landing to keep the plane from being launched by a bump in the three point attitude. Others that are soft - tall grass - where you do not want the tail up at all or you could end up in the flip flop flyers club. As far as flaps, watch my left hand the flap handle is on the lower left, all the landings in the video are with flaps. And when you use the flaps to take off, I generally use 1 -notch 22.5 degrees, you can pull just as you rotate almost to full flaps to pull you out of a soft surface, I never let it click to the second notch, you pull it just short of clicking so you can get it off quick and get to only the first notch. It does not climb well with full flaps. Go ahead and subscribe - I have lots of other videos about Supercubs. Thanks again for you comments.

The lines are buried at the end of the runway. The owner of the field can call the electric company and for about $5000.00 , they will bury the lines at the end of the runway, . Good to know if the lines are buried or not! Watch close you will see the lines end. Thanks for watching!

Is there a particular year or sub model that has the square dash? The Super Cubs I’ve seen always have a rounded dash.
@Cubonaut875
@Cubonaut875 7 ай бұрын
Excellent question: All older Supercubs were produced with the rounded panel. The square panel is an upgrade/aftermarket item, a STC, Supplemental Type Certificate is required as it is a certified airplane. This modification was placed at the rebuild of the plane in 2007 to accommodate more instruments. The holder of the STC is Cubcrafters and the panel and paperwork to document it is available from them. Thanks for watching!!

@@Cubonaut875 that’s awesome. I currently rent a PA-28 with a couple G5s in the stock panel. The G5s were super helpful for me. It made it much easier to move toward a full glass cockpit after being so used to “steam gauges” for so long. I’d love to have a classic Super Cub with a G1000.

Manfred Adams - Hi Manfred - thanks for the comment - the navigation aids record the parameters of my flights in great detail, I review the flight to learn from my experience. My mind, hands and feet fly the airplane. I know every farm, house and forest in a 100 mile radius - they have nothing to do with flying the airplane. I flew R/C airplanes for 5 years or so. That experience makes me never to want to fly. I guess however there are no servos or batteries to die and your spinner is far less likely to fly off randomly. Perhaps it's just the sound of the engine that reminds me of a glowplug engine.

for what red and blue button?
@Cubonaut875
@Cubonaut875 7 жыл бұрын
MrDenatata - Red is mixture, it increases and reduces the ratio of air to fuel going to the carburetor. The blue is the carburetor heat, it directs warm air to the carburetor to prevent ice build up in the carburetor during throttle reduction
@MrDenatata
@MrDenatata 7 жыл бұрын
The normal ratio of gasoline to air is 1: 14.7 - so? How do you understand that you need to make a mixture richer or poorer? And how is the mixture controlled, lyabda sensor? Sorry if my questions seem stupid, I'm curious
@Cubonaut875
@Cubonaut875 7 жыл бұрын
MrDenatata - no sensor - you make the ratio "mixture" leaner until you get an rpm drop then you slightly richen and you have it. Remember' air is less dense as you increase altitude. Some airplanes have an exhaust gas temperature gauge to better gauge correct mixture. The technology is the same as it was 60 years ago . The cost to certify new technology for airplanes is very high - so as a consequence, technology lags greatly. If any new technology fails - the legal cost can put all but the largest companies out of businesses

@Cubonaut875 7 жыл бұрын
HERB PAUL you might ask yourself why the navy uses an overhead landing approach with a stabilized final? - since they are trying to hit a very specific point in a variety of weather conditions, this approach yields the best control for landing in an specific spot on the runway, and since I'm trying to land in a very exact spot - no need to reinvent the wheel!
