In this video, we take a look at what a traffic pattern is, the nomenclature for it, as well as how to fly it both from a map perspective as well as in the simulator.

finally someone who actually explains the entry points and not just the basic traffic pattern itself ... great stuff as always! thanks for the great content sir!

The best video I've come across on traffic patterns. Thank you! I've been flying these patterns but at much greater distances from the airport. Probably because I'm not yet practised enough to do things quickly and smoothly. It was interesting to see just how close to the runway you were, but I get it (both safety in case of loss of engine and also awareness/visibility).

I really appreciated the way you drew diagrams for different approaches. No other video covers this. Just wondering if there are any other flight sims that offer good lessons and tutorials now that I have completed MSFS 2020's tutorials. I really want to learn more about landing patters and procedures!

2 questions. What happens when there are multiple runways, parallel or crossing? I also read that you want to fly 500 feet above the traffic pattern when crossing the runway so you don't run the risk of crashing into someone on their downwind.

A lot of airports that use multiple runways at once have right-hand patterns for some runways to keep traffic separated.

Well done, my son lives in Plainville CT. Now I’m inspired to practice patterns.

Real good explanation. I wish the training in MSFS 2020 would give more information about these procedures. Earlier MSFS had mor information if I remember right. Maybe it will be updates to make it better.

I can fly these no problem, but your explaination for new flyers to sims is fantastic, loving all your videos and tutorials.

Great video. Surprised you stayed so close to the runway. I've been going much wider. Really helpful to see the downwind to final. Still having trouble gauging speed and descent. Thanks!!

The ideal distance would be a mile out. An easy way you can tell is that the runway is about 2/3 down your wing. Hope that helps!

Thanks! Esp. about entering and exiting TP - I always wondered about the correct way. Suggestion: Aeronautical vfr charts like skyvector do have symbols for tp direction ect, maybe include those in your planning videos?

a pilot told me it was ok to fly straight in , he would make a callout at 10, 5, and 2 NM. I here different thinks from different people. Is there a place to find a define answer. JW cause i was to sim as close to accurate as possible
@dave03512 жыл бұрын
Straight in is fine. It's customary to give traffic in the pattern the right of way, but at slower airports it's rarely an issue. I agree with making multiple calls on the way in because not everyone in the pattern is paying attention like they should!
