That was fun looking around. Grew up in Bridgeport and drove Park and North, a LOT. It looks so different now in some places, but exactly the same in others. Last time I saw "King Cole's" parking lot it was a grocery store, but can't remember with which label. I haven't been to CT in 14 years.

I worked at Conlin Paint Co. when King Cole was being built. We had to mix 17 shades of brown paint for the panels on the bag pick-up building. The paint was mixed by eye, and was in a graduated scale from light to dark. The pickup building was separate from the store, and the bags were transported to the building via an underground belt to the building where employees placed their purchases in customer's cars. It was a revolutionary idea, but it never caught on. I go back to the time when upper Park Avenue was mostly woods, and as a Boy Scout camped in Ninety Acres Park, which was undeveloped. Another great ride. Brings back a lot of memories. Thanks!

Thanks for this. I grew up in and around Bridgeport in the 60's and 70's. My Mom told me she was shopping at King Cole's when they announced that JFK had been shot. I lived in several places around the city before moving to California. This was a great reminder. Thanks again.

The big green HI-HO was originally built as a coal storage facility and used to have signs that said "Blue Flame Coal". The coal was delivered by train from a siding that ran up Lindley St. across a very steep, dangerous crossing across North Ave. Another great video. Brings back a lot of memories

I lived a couple blocks down from King Cole's. Remember Candy Land? The building was painted Pepto Bismol pink.
