Flying in 360- you control the view! GoPro Fusion

Alright viewers, I've tried this a few times and it has had mixed results. I suspect a few of you have tried to watch the video in non 360 compatible devices. So, if you can't pan around and select your view, you are not watching it on a 360 compatible device. Clarity will not be as good as my "normal" videos, but you have the benefit of being able to look around and see what you'd like to look at. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. And no, I'm not going exclusively to this format. But, I am told if you watch in VR goggles, the view is quite good. But I was there, so my view was really good! This was filmed with the GoPro Fusion camera.

The 360 views are pretty awesome since we get to control the camera view. If only if it would let us zoom in and out... especially on looking at the instruments. As always any videos you do make my day. Be safe and thank you.

I don't hate it, and I understand it's easier than setting up and synching 4 or 5 cameras. But I miss the hi-res views of the panel, and you usually have a really good mix of panel shots from different angles. The issues I've had with 360 views is the view angle changing with changes in the aircraft direction of travel. But I still get a kick out of the videos. Thanks for posting!

Well if the armchair CFI’s hate 360 that much, they can buy their own business jet and show you how to “properly” make videos. (Roll my eyes) Good job, another excellent video. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos!

Interesting on how people can hate something. It’s like someone doesn’t like 3D tv, yet still have that 3D tv. I love 360 videos, specially the one on the U.S. Navy Blue Ángels video and that F/A-18 Hornet launching from a carrier. Thanks for the 360 and keep them coming!! Be blessed in the LORD! Semper Fi! Put me down in the column of people that enjoyed this... but... yeah, 360s need to be limited edition P1D videos. The detail afforded by your fixed cameras and excellent editing are what I really enjoy. To be 360 compatible, I was watching this on my iPad. At the beginning of video my 15 year old daughter was looking over my shoulder to see how the movement worked. She made me laugh when you were going through the system checks with the various tones. After the overspeed warning she said, “Sounds like he’s playing Pacman...”

I don't understand why anyone would complain. It's obvious you put a lot of effort into your videos and I thoroughly enjoy watching them. It's probably the closest I will get to riding along in a jet. I watched this video on my iPad and enjoyed being able to look around. I ordered an Oculus Go headset for a better experience, so I might have a different experience by next week. What would be super cool, and I'm surprised some avionics manufacturers don't support this, would be to have a video output from the PFD specifically designed to be recorded. Whatever you do, please keep releasing videos. I really love watching them.

I fly mostly at uncontrolled airports, knowing who has the right of way is important to learn. In this situation I would have most definitely extended my downwind to allow a faster aircraft to land. The aircraft at a lower altitude has the right of way, but an aircraft on final has right of way over all other aircraft no matter the altitude or distance out. You were very professional in how you handled it, it did sound like the other pilot was not listening and preoccupied with something. I really enjoy your videos. I’m always learning something new from watching them. The 360 is very cool!!

Greg, many of us, either pilots or non-pilots learn or get something from each of your videos. Myself, I’ve watched most of the videos multiple and generally let them run in the background and enjoy your commentary and the ATC chatter. I’ve learned and gleaned so much from your videos over the years. Especially on picking up and getting the IFR clearances from RCOs or just using the phone. I especially like your format of start up through cruise and then descent to landing. Some of my favorites are the single pilot ops that are an hour plus. The 360 is just as you said about clarity etc., but you also have a much cleaner cockpit and you probably saved a ton of time. After watching a fair share of your videos I decided that if I am going to sit for an hour and watch I should be doing something. I like to see you route of flight on the setup and I go to Skyvector or Airnav and download the plates, layout the flight and get a print out so I can follow you along the way. I am very familiar with the places you fly around Montana and Colorado so it helps connect with the long days of driving that I have done in those areas. I put each package in a notebook titled "Premier 1 Driver, having all the fun and doing all the work." Keep it up, I am retired and have plenty of time. Flying in the winter time in Iowa is a different kind of fun.

Greg the view is very clear and detailed --- that is after I adjusted the resolution to the 2160s (4k) setting in the KZbin window settings. Indeed, if I were to watch this at the default resolution (quality) setting, which is 240s, I would not like the 360 format AT ALL. In 4k the view is truly amazing. It is as though I were in the cockpit with you. Thank you for your dedication to quality and all the hard work you put into this content.

The 360 is great! I have flown a couple dozen flights with you and just wanted to say thank you for sharing! We fly rotax powered Kitplanes that burn 3 to 5 gallons an hour. The big difference is engine noise and sometimes in a strong headwind the GPS ground speed goes negative and the scenery goes the other way looking through the wind screen.

360 gives you a real cockpit feeling, even without goggles. However, I miss being able to read the instruments and the beautiful overwing outlook. Alternating between 360 and 'classic', will, i guess, be the best solution to please everybody... Keep it up, and thanks for these great videos! You have inspired me to lose weight in order to regain my medical. My resolution for this year is to be flying again before Halloween (no worries, it's my Birthday...)!

A bit like going from 20-20 vision to 20-40 with a hearty dash of astigmatism thrown in. The 360 system is fantastic for virtual visits to bucket list museums such as the National Museum of the United States Air Force but is overkill for a cockpit. Hopefully this does not become standard format. Radio plus limited cogent comments are what make this channel so enjoyable. Thanks.

Hi, I like your idea and change is good, now I can see the panel and amazing views which I will never get tired of. I have to confess that I am not understanding one question when people are asking if cruising is boring and some pilots are quietly agreeing. My answer is flying is never boring there is so much going on there is no time to even think like that. But that is only my opinion. Thanks for sharing your flight with us!

It's hard to hate a view out the cockpit glass, no matter what it's filmed in. 😊 I just realized I could zoom in and out with the virtual mouse wheel on my iMac! I think the first time I watched in 360°, I was zoomed way in, which killed the resolution. Zoomed as far back as I could go, the picture wasn't as bad. Still not as sharp as the GoPros, as I'm sure you know, but I'll never be bothered by the occasional 360° view. Great stuff, Greg, as always! 👍👍
