You have the best aviation instruction videos that I have run across so far. I am a retired Airline pilot and am presently renewing my expired Class 2 rating after 43 years and these videos are excellent in reviewing the curriculum for my renewal. Thank you! I use this in conjunction with my study material!

0:18 wingtip vortices -byproduct of lift 0:33 lateral flow -the high pressure air below the wing rushes out and then up to meet low pressure on the wing and the downwash from the propeller on top of the ing meets that high pressure and pushes them back down which cause it spiral -this causes induced drag -higher angle of attack means bigger vortices and more drag 1:25 at lower airspeeds when need a higher angle of attack to keep lift and weight equal but at higher speeds we don’t need a higher angle of attack so we have less induced drag 2:12 most dangerous encounters are planes that are heavy(higher aoa), clean(no flaps) and slow 2:55 don’t follow aircraft within 1,000 feet 3:05 during take off and landing wait 3 minutes for vortices to dissipate. The movement is 2-3 knots and they move laterally. A crosswind can make them stay in the runway longer 4:09 ground effect -reduces size of wingtip vortices which give us more lift and less induced drag and less thrust -during takeoff you can become airborne before recommended airspeed -you’ll leave ground effect and you’ll need a high aoa, youlll have more drag and reduced stability and the pressure change will make you think you’re flying faster than you are 6:20 ground effect affects low wing airplanes more

I’m preparing for CFI-A and I had only understood ground effect as far as a cushion of air and I thought it was due to increased air density. Your video really cleared it up. I’m not 100% until I review more, but this was very helpful.

@@FreePilotTraining can a general aviation aircraft - such as a cessna - takeoff from it? considering the height of the grass, would that be a wise thing to do?!
@ZenithE8 Жыл бұрын
This is the type of thing that I worry about being tested on.. I can somewhat grasp it but to explain it back to someone else .......
@FreePilotTraining Жыл бұрын
If you get asked about it, I’d just call it a layer of air between the ground and wing that gets in the way and keeps the airplane airborne a little longer
