I took a trip to Zambia in Southern Africa and flew into the newly opened Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International airport AKA Copperbelt airport in Ndola.
I had an excellent flight with Airlink, and the new airport is great apart from one (major) thing that's missing.
Have a look in this flight review vlog.

Airline: Airlink
Cabin: Economy
Route Taken: JNB-NLA

Found your video, while looking up how things were progressing with the new airport. As a kid I used to live in flats right across from the old Ndola airport, good memories of driving over to the old 'tin shed' with my parents to get something to eat, they had a decent restaurant in there. And the Zambia Airways 707 always took off on Friday mornings at 7am, that was the highlight of my week, it was so loud made for a great alarm clock :)

The Profund flats? My wife's cousin lives there. And yes, I've enjoyed the bar and restaurant there and around the perimeter at the flying club. The new airport has had the road done now, but it is a way out of town. Thanks for watching!

I expect the air force are making full use of the bar. And there are still some old - and new prop planes buzzing about, didn't manage to get on one on this trip sadly.

The old airport was actually great - close to town, small and very efficient. No idea why such a large airport is required, TBH, or has passenger volume grown that much? Used take all of 5 minutes (or less) to pass tru all formalities at the old airport - hope the much bigger airport does not mean everything slows down.....At times I arrived at the airport when the plane was just about to take off (no, not due to heavy traffic on the way- due to bad time keeping...) - and still managed to board the plane. Sometimes small is good.

I don't think its fair or accurate to call the old Ndola airport a "corrugated shed" , there is also no objective reason why one would say" I dont think a lot people that know where Ndola is " and finally not making an effort to remember the name of the airport is just disrespectful to the people of Ndola a town that you seem to have visited quite often Mr Culshaw .Why do you keep going there if you have nothing to say about the place ?
@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298
@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 Жыл бұрын
Okay but what if the old airport was a corrugated shed? The issue is a factual one and not whether it's fair to say so or not. It's true, a lot of people don't know where Ndola is. It's definitely not as polupar as Livingstone. Unless you're from Southern Africa most people wouldn't know where Ndola is. It's good he pointed it out on the map. How is not knowing the name of an airport disrespectful? Was the airport name not changed recently?

Why look for offense? I lived across from that airport as a child, yes part of it was a 'tin shed', more accurately a nissen hut design, I loved that little airport, and I guess my love of aviation grew from there. I never took offense at his description, I took it more as a cute way to describe a fond old friend.

My late brother Alexander Harrison worked for Zamnia Airways as the Station Manager for Ndola Airport .1973-1977 Let me correct you....Ndola Airport was never a corrugated shed....It was a small efficient Airport..smart clean and close to town. This nonsense of painting it as something backwards ends here and now....utter rubbish notwithstanding that you are entitled to your opinion... Enjoy the hospitality of Zambja but do so respectfully !
