I work in LATAM and it's really nice to see you testing our product! Its the true that LATAM Brazil is by far the biggest branch but Chile is pretty big too, as well with Peru having a big chunk of their market. LATAM only operates 777s from Brazil, while in Chile all international long haul routes are 787s and Peru a mix of 787s and the last 767 remaining on the fleet. There's a big effort being put on retrofiting our cabins to a better standard, as most 787s have the old Premium Business seats which are already very tired. LATAM is also very big in Colombia and Ecuador. In Colombia they recently aquired a local low cost airline and some 320s still have their terrible Economy seats which dont recline! Also due to local agreements several countries allow planes to be flown with CC registration aka Chile's and thats why you see LATAM Colombia and LATAM Peru fly them with a Chilean registration, its to save on paperwork and simplify exchange of aiplanes between hubs. With our future standarization of LOPAs in all of our aiplanes hopefully the experience is the same no matter what HUB are you using!

That’s all great information. Great to know! I’ll be trying Chile’s flights to Australia on the 787 later this year, so I’m excited to see the difference. Here’s to hoping that SFO gets back their South America routes! Thanks man!

I will leave a suggestion. No international KZbinr has ever covered the Gol Flight from Brasilia (BSB) To Orlando (MCO) on the MAX 8. It is one of the longest MAX 8 routes in the world. I do speak Portuguese (since I am from Brazil), so a few Brazilians have covered this flight already but no international one yet. It would be a "fun" challenge. I have a love-and-hate relationship with Latam, because I am from Brazil I use them a lot, domestically and internationally due to points. I had some awesome economy class experience on their 767 and 787. But also had some terrible experiences on their old 777s. Unfortunately due to the merger, they let go of the A350s.

It’s also worth mentioning that Brasilia is much safer than a place like São Paulo. I flew in the old American 757-200 to Miami when it was still operating, but I always had interest in the 737 max BSB to KMCO. It would make for a great video, It’s rare to find a good quality video of Brazilians themselves flying that Max, it would make it even rarer (literally the first international KZbinr) to make that video

I flew Varig airlines back in the 80’s, they used to be Brazils largest airlines. It was amazing, my economy seat was comparable to today’s premium economy or even some business class seats. Those days are long gone unfortunately 😢 And bro, you could have made your own ham and cheese croissant sandwich with that platter they gave you 😅

On my return from Istanbul, Turkish airlines lounge in Istanbul was incredible. Top, Top, Top!!! I flew on Ethiopian 8a Addis Ababa and was able to use the Turkish lounge. Simply beautiful bathrooms with as much or more marble than any hamam. And the amount and quality of food served overwhelmed me in comparison of the LATAM offering.

I hope that despite this bad situation you have undergone, please be sure that the majority of Brazilians are nice, friendly and helpful people and that there are wonderful places to visit and discover. If you ever come back here, visit places beyond Rio and São Paulo. Brazil is a huge country! Congratulations for your excellent work showing different airlines all over the world. Keep going! Thank you for the overall good review of Lantam. You are right about being seated in the very last row there in Business Class. I hope the Purser came by to let you know that your first selected on both meal orders were not available! Years ago, when I would help Business Class meal service, I would hear that something was not available to customers in the last couple of rows of the second section Business Class form my airline. I would always apologize to the customer and see what little items if any were left over from First Class to give as a treat to Business Class. But again, I use to always make sure the my First F/As had spoiled First Class enough. And then I had even gone back to Economy Class to see what was leftover. Then if so, I would always come back up to Business Class and use some nice extra plates to arranging leftover meas iin a nice presentable display. I tried to make the passenger or passengers feel more comfortable onboard. Sometimes that worked and sometimes it did not. But I would try to make the him/her feel nice!!😊

Great review and I really appreciate you channel. I has a similar language experience with a hotel near GRU where no one could communicate with me. I tried spanish, english, and german. I studied a bit of portuguese in university, but they could not understand me (I tried). However, I didn't actually expect them to understand me. If you think about it, Sao Paulo is about a 2 hour flight to Asuncion (closest large-ish spanish speaking city). Boston to Montreal is about an hour and a half flight. So, by this logic cops in Boston should speak french. I kinda doubt it. Thanks for the great videos. Keep it up!

It's not very common to Brazilians learn Spanish to go to a Spanish speaking country, the small amount of us who actually goes to some Spanish speaking country usually are fine with Portuguese and when in countries like Paraguay Brazilians go shopping and they are the ones making the effort, we usually arent even needed to use their currency as they are eager to get the Real and makes all the effort to speak some portuguese
@PatrickSheaAviation
@PatrickSheaAviation 10 ай бұрын
That’s all interesting. I totally get what you’re saying, I just found it strange that it was tough to find a cop who could speak Spanish or English for a little while. I guess Portuguese will have to be the next language I try learning
@goytabr
@goytabr 10 ай бұрын
@@PatrickSheaAviation, Portuguese and Spanish are very closely related languages with a large degree of mutual intelligibility if not spoken too fast, and mostly a breeze to understand in writing (despite some treacherous false cognates). Even if the cops didn't speak Spanish (very few Brazilians do, actually, even highly educated ones, exactly because the languages are so similar and easily understandable that it doesn't seem worth the learning effort), they should be able to understand you and to reply in broken but understandable "Portuñol". If you speak Spanish, you really shouldn't have any problems communicating in Brazil. We Brazilians and our South American neighbors communicate in "Portuñol" all the time and it works wonderfully. Just for starters, despite a supposed rivalry, Brazilians and Argentines are both crazy about each other's country (they're complementary in many ways, each having what the other lacks), millions vacation every year in the other country, and we hardly ever have any language problem. That being said, you admitted that you were in a seedy part of the city - and as in all big cities, there are several run-down and dangerous areas (I certainly wouldn't stay in a hotel in the Tenderloin or lower Market Street areas of your hometown, which I have visited and loved it!). I absolutely loathe blaming the victim, but it's still a fact that São Paulo is a large city of a developing country (VERY large, actually, with *12 million* people within the strict city limits and *22 million* in the whole built-up metropolitan area!), and it's also a fact that you should research and be aware of the safer and less safe neighborhoods where you stay or visit in any such city, not only São Paulo. This would certainly also apply to Mexico City, Cairo, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Delhi, Bangkok, etc. - probably even Eastern Europe. It's not worth risking your safety for a few bucks. You certainly had a much greater loss than what you saved in your hotel - and you should still be thankful for being alive and well. And I concur with what another local commenter said: on first impression, São Paulo does look like a bleak, grey, chaotic concrete jungle of random ugly skyscrapers and heavy traffic, but like all cities of its size, it has A LOT of hidden charms. It's a fantastic place for cultural life, gastronomy (it's an immigrant haven, so you have great food from all over the world), shopping, all kinds of different experiences. I'm originally from another part of Brazil, but I've been living in São Paulo for 29 years and I absolutely LOVE this city! Oh, and the airport name is pronounced "gwah-ROO-lyus", with the last part similar to "Julius". It's actually the name of the neighboring city in metropolitan São Paulo where the airport is. Just to give an idea of how huge metro São Paulo is, just the "neighboring suburban city" of Guarulhos alone has about 1.2 million residents!

Great review! Thoroughly enjoyed it, including your "fun story" from SP. Hope you can branch out to some more varied parts of Latin America in the name of aviation soon. I snagged the 777 as part of the £1.2k LHR-GRU-CNF RT fare that existed for a while. Catering aside (I got my first choices which were meh), it's been my favourite cabin to fly in years. The relatively large footwell cannot be praised enough and allowed me to set my PB for sleep on a plane! Classy design, loads of storage, great IFE and such a comfortable seat and bedding. I'd rank this cabin above AF/KL/BA/IB given the choice. Just a shame about the limited mileage accrual avenues on European loyalty programmes.

These new Latam seats are so compact, it felt very close to the screen and when you recline, about half of your body is under the cubby so it felt claustrophobic. Honestly, I actually prefer their older 2-2-2 seating. The Latam crew are usually very cheery and welcoming, but their meal service is almost always too slow, some times it takes them almost 2 hours to wrap up a midnight departure 6-hr flight. The Latam lounges are fantastic though, both SCL and GRU!

It's not a thing, but something that I'm really starting to realize is that lameass interior designers has some kind of fetiche in overcomplicating faucets cause they think it's fancy. Some faucets you can spend 30 min trying to figure out how to open it, some of them people even try to use gestures, clap, and voice commands only to realize that instead of rotating the valve it's actually a lever.

@@PatrickSheaAviation, if what I heard from before the short-lived visa waiver is any indication, the visa requirement is just a diplomatic retaliation for the U.S. demand of visas for Brazilians, and a Brazilian visa for Americans was hardly ever denied (the reverse is NOT true). It's certainly another expense and annoyance, but not really a big deal, and it used to be available even by mail (but Brazil does have a consulate in San Francisco, so it's even easier for you).

always appreciate your efforts to share perspectives on market and historical analysis and think this element in your videos is what makes your content even more compelling👌 airport lounge design should always factor in close and clear views of aircrafts (so totes with you on this) beautiful cabin design with generous space. whoa, comforter 'perhaps better than Emirates' speaks volumes! yes, i remember that harrowing Sao Paolo story and oddly your reaction about being annoyed sounds like you to a T lol and even though idk you personally your choice of narrative reflects a bit of your personality imo hehe "cool aviation events trump safety" 👍as an air force brat i would agree. 18:16 to 18:35 is a wicked segment (gorgeous lighting) bummer about the wi-fi (were there vents?) entire meal service seemed completely on point (i realize the language barrier must have been frustrating but hope the cabin crew were at least pleasant) so good to be able to live vicariously every sunday on your channel #werd and please keep doing you! thanks dude

You are wrong about AA’s history at GRU. AA at GRU long predated USAirways. AA purchased Eastern Airlines’ Latin American routes in 1990, and quickly grew to become the dominant carrier in many cities. AA had a huge presence at GRU even in the 1990s, and even had a mini-hub there at one time. I know that I flew into GRU frequently in the late 90s on AA and then connected to Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Asunción and Montevideo with each flight on AA metal. AA efficiently used the time the planes would be on the ground all day in GRU to serve those markets. USAirways did not arrive in GRU until MUCH later and only had a tiny footprint.
@JeanClaudeCOCO
@JeanClaudeCOCO 10 ай бұрын
Wow so they use their own planes to connect passengers to secondary cities? Now with the partnership between Latam and Delta, AA looks to be in slight discomfort. That will cut into their profitability.
@JoseErnesto-df6oq
@JoseErnesto-df6oq 10 ай бұрын
You are not fully correct also. 1. AA's first attempt to operate in the Brazilian market took place in 1982, when they replaced Braniff, connecting only Dallas (DFW) to Brazil. It didn't work because the Brazilian market was used to flying MIA, JFK or LAX. This operation was closed less than 2 years later. The second attempt, happened in 1990, with departures from GIG and GRU to MIA. Soon they added JFK to both Brazilian hubs 2. The Brazilian government aviation agency (in the past the DAC, currently ANAC) has never allowed domestic flights carried out by foreign airlines. There have never been any domestic flights in Brazil with AA planes. 3. Perhaps AA has operated flights with stops to other capitals in South America, but always outside Brazil, such as MVD, BUE, ASU, but this type of operation, if it existed, has been discontinued for decades.
@JoseErnesto-df6oq
@JoseErnesto-df6oq 10 ай бұрын
@@JeanClaudeCOCO it never happened, simply beacuse the Brazilian Aviation agency never allowed domestic flights carried by foreign airlines. In the past, sometimes the plane had more than one stop, like the JFK-GIG-GRU route. But in these situations without boardind of new passengers. And this kind of operation finished in the 90´s

The LATAM Chile experience is always way superior.
@rcubellas
@rcubellas 10 ай бұрын
I could not disagree more. Had some experiences flying LAN to Australia before the merger and with latam after the merger both in economy and business. They were some of the worst long haul flights I have ever taken. Considerably worse than LATAM flights from GRU to Europe, IMO. TAM was so much better when it was standalone. Not it is consistently bad across all subsidiaries.
@sebastianmartinezsantos5289
@sebastianmartinezsantos5289 10 ай бұрын
@@rcubellas Well, it seems that our experiences are different. One thing is for sure, the data doesn't lie. Before the merger, Lan Airlines consistently won the award for best airline in Latin America, while Tam, well, let's just say it had problems and became one of the most unsafe airlines in the world. Its long-haul fleet is now so small that Chilean planes are repositioned to cover its routes, which is a pity. LAN used to connect Spanish-speaking Latin America to the world, now it connects Spanish-speaking Latin America to Brazil and, from there, to the world. The product offered by LATAM Brazil in Economy in their 777-300er (in which I had the misfortune to fly), is mediocre to say the least, an outdated product and in a maximum density configuration that is surpassed by the interior of their 787s (mostly Chilean). And I want to clarify that I am Argentinean, so I would have no reason to lean towards their Chilean counterpart if it wasn't because of the positive experiences I had with them. LAN is a loss that all of us Spanish speakers miss, because it never returned to what it was. And considering that LAN was the one that took over TAM, it is a shame that it has become a Brazilian airline.

LATAM is now the predominant carrier or 2nd/3rd biggest in each market. LATAM has sure been taking over the continent, haven't they?) Guarulhos: pronounced (GWAH-ROO-LEE-OHS); well, that's pretty close anyway. And I didn't realize that ITA Airways is actually pronounced (EETAH) which is how you said it in your video, so I learned something new. Patrick, why was that sink in the lounge (with the faucet on the side) so "uncomfortable" for you? What exactly were you doing in that sink?!?! 😉 Patrick, were you walking around on your own in São Paulo? Not a destination I've ever desired to visit and no intentions of ever going there.
