This truly was a once-in-a-lifetime trip! I feel very fortunate to have been able to surprise my dad with flights and tickets to see his absolute hero, Paul Weller, live in concert at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Living in Perth (the most isolated capital city on the planet), we often get missed by big tours but there was no way I was going to let us miss this!

He writes for his own life, not for money. As one spectator at a Hyde Park concert said, "he sings my life to me". I echo that sentiment. Every stage of my life, he's there, writing about it (I'm a mere five years younger).

Exactly! So good to see there's still artists that aren't driven by the money. Makes all the difference that he was raised working class.

Brilliant - I discovered Weller in 78 whilst growing up in NZ (Emigrated in 73 aged 10) and he has been a constant in my life ever since - I only ever saw The Jam live once (last ever gig at Brighton in 82 as mentioned by your dad). I never saw The Style Council as they never made it to Auckland however I have seen Weller 10 times since 2008 across Australia Including 5 times at the Opera House. Your dad is a legend in my eyes having seen him over 200 times! Total respect to you for arranging that for your dad. I have tickets for From The Jam in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide where I now reside. Hope you both enjoy the gig in Perth.

Amazing! It's so cool to hear from people that were at the last gig, and how spread out around the world they are now. Bring on From The Jam!

How would you explain to an alien...or American ...😂.....I found that funny. As an American I have never heard of Paul Weller. I loved the convo with your dad. Great video.

I really enjoyed this - thank you! I first saw The Jam in '79 and have seen Weller maybe 30 times since, so not in your Dad's league but nevertheless I have bought every single and album and followed the Mod coda since I was 14. I took my son to see him at the Hammersmith Apollo about 8 years ago, and in the bar beforehand he said "Dad, I've never seen so many blokes that look like you!" A special moment. Also, my first gig ever was The Jam at the Brighton Centre, Nov '79, with support from The Piranhas. Possibly the gig your Dad mentioned where they saw the soundcheck. I met Bruce and Rick outside The Grand that day - Paul wasn't with them! I saw him about 2 weeks ago in Stoke-on-Trent and it was tremendously good - similar set list to yours. He was absolutely on fire that night!

You both summed up that show and Weller perfectly. I got to see him once about 5 or 6 years ago in Cleveland and it was the best. I love the longevity and variety of his catalog. (I don't think I breathed during 'You Do Something To Me" when I saw him :)

Great film! Respect Weller massively but I want the old classics at a gig.... however you can't knock him for staying true to himself. You did a great thing by the old man 🥂🇬🇧

Impressive 200 times! For Australians the people who have lasted as long, consistently amazing and had a similar impact on us are Nick Cave and Mick Harvey ❤ I feel we are so lucky and blessed to have lived through the best musical era in history! Lovely watching this. Paul's Monday night SOH gig went off too! Bless you. Peace and music forever ❤

Great video thank you, I like your father was at the last Jam concert Brighton 82, being in the UK I’ve seen him solo maybe 15 times and your Dad said something I hadn’t realised but is obvious not many people get to see an idol from being a 14 year old to being in my case a 57 year old - thanks for making this

Enjoyed that, Thanks. Like your dad, followed Paul through the years and his ever changing moods. We went the first night and loved every minute of it. It was the most relaxed I've ever seen him on stage. The band were brilliant. I hope he comes again because That's Real Entertainment.

That was great thank you. Great present you got there and really loved how you echo how a lot of us feel and also how great Weller is live, you said as good as his records, I would say much better but all the same, great. Can't wait for the new album in May and I hope you get to see him in Perth sometime soon. Cheers.

Like your dad Me Weller has always been in my life since I was about 15. I saw the Jam in Sheffield in 1982, only seen him once since at a festival in early 2000s, but I’m seeing him at Edinburgh Castle in July, I’m excited after seeing this. I don’t know if you guys can get it, but he did a gig on BBC iPlayer with Steve Craddock and I think it’s the London philharmonic orchestra and a couple of guest appearances, it’s awesome. You’re dads reaction to getting his tickets was priceless, thanks for the video. 👋

A man of similar age(your dads I can relate to his passion for our Paul but my passion was The Clash although I love The Jam.I also saw them in 76 up until 82 and later at the red wedge tour (benefit gigs for the miners). His political stance was what brought me into Weller World and also The Clash. The both of them fought for the underdog.Which is VERY commendable for people like Weller and Strummer in there position,I think it’s cos they have been in a similar position.Enough of my ranting but Happy Birthday Sir hope you have a great one 🎉Peace man.

It was a little odd for the setting I guess. The opera house is generally a sitting venue so there was a lot of "should we stand? shouldnt we?" but pretty much everyone stood for the last few songs.
