The fact that Dublin doesn't have a train or tram connection or both Is a disgrace. Surely a a DART spur would do for now until the tram(if) or the metro gets built. In most European countries this would have been planned and built within five Years. Take Belgium or the Netherlands for example, similar size/population/GDP.

Would have liked to see the inside of the airport terminal and what ‘meal’ was served. As other airlines, Ryanair normally offer an option to buy a drink and sandwich or snack which almost cost as much as the air fare.
@skiesofireland34292 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick - I intended on filming the inside of the airport however as I am sure you will appreciate with the terminal being so small it would have been a bit obstructive on the other passengers privacy. In addition, I decided not to purchase food as it was rather expensive and not worth it on such a short flight. Thank you for watching!
@patrickmccutcheon93612 жыл бұрын
@@skiesofireland3429 fair enough. I guess I was struck by your expression ‘meal service’. I flew Ryanair and find it practical and good value. I too am not that impressed with the few hot dishes and pricy sandwiches but then we choose whether or not we buy which I find ok rather than an inflated all-in price. Would just loved a peak at the airport since I have never been there.

@skiesofireland34292 жыл бұрын

@jamesparsons90682 жыл бұрын
@@skiesofireland3429 Not actually true if you read my post - it's can be slower to fly or at best it doesn't save that much time but you have the extra hassle of walking, security, changing vehicles 3 to 4 times. And if you book a week in advance the train fares are 25 Euro one way from Killarney to Dublin, and the fare with Ryanair for a similar period is 20 Euro and if you have luggage it goes to over 30. So the train is cheaper, faster and if you are over 65 in Ireland, it's free.
@skiesofireland34292 жыл бұрын
@@jamesparsons9068 Perhaps, but I’d argue against that. You only need 20 minutes to clear security at Kerry airport and your on the flight to Dublin for about 45 minutes Add on another 20 for stuff like getting through DUB and waiting for takeoff and your in Dublin by the time the train is in Mallow. I’ve flown to Dublin 12 hours in advance as well for €20 so for people who need to go to Dublin quickly on the day in an affordable manner, the flight is extremely important
@jamesparsons90682 жыл бұрын
@@skiesofireland3429 OK let's look at it precisely; you live in killarney town and decide you want to travel to Dublin tomorrow. Train: leaves at 0745 and takes 3 hours 2 mins direct. Costs 33 Euro one way, cheaper if you booked earlier. No stops, no 20 minute walk no security, no dumping liquids, no need for ID and constantly looking for bits of paper and apps on your phone. You arrive close to the centre of Dublin just after 10:45. Plane: First flight is 10:25 in the morning, leaving that aside, it costs 38 Euro and 48 with some baggage if you buy today. It takes you 20 minutes to get the train to Farranfore, 20 minutes to walk - assuming it isn't raining - in case you need a taxi. It's a flight so everyone arrives early with at least an hour at the airport whether it's doing security, checking in or just hanging around. Flight time 30 minutes gate to gate. 20 minutes to get out of Dublin airport. 30 to 40 minutes waiting for a bus and getting into Dublin city in busy traffic. Total time = 3 Hours 10 minutes - 20 Minutes. Cost assuming no bags is at a minimum 45 to 50 Euros to allow for train/bus costs in Killarney/Dublin. Train is faster cheaper and there are eight of them a day. No comparison, none. So who might benefit from the flight? More than likely those who live near the airport, can expense all costs e.g. civil servants, professional people etc and travel frequently enough to know the routine. So it would be a case of 10 minute taxi ride to the airport, flight , taxi from Dublin to city centre. Although even those might appreciate three hours at a table on a train without any disturbance which would allow them to work undisturbed.
@skiesofireland34292 жыл бұрын
@@jamesparsons9068 As I said, you can show up for your flight at KIR only 20 minutes before. They have the latest generation of security scanners which means literally nothing needs to leave the bag. There was people clearing security 15 minutes before boarding when I last used KIR.

A great video, love the music, but Kerry Airport is a political airport like many others, it exists to keep the regions happy and ensure support for local politician, it is not only propped up by subsidies and grants but it makes little financial sense to fly to Dublin from there and here's why, 1 Let's assume you are travelling from the two largest towns Tralee to Dublin or Killarney to Dublin the train to Farranfore from both these takes 20 minutes, add in 20 minutes walking time or waiting for a taxi and then a hour minimum at the airport - people tend to overcompensate. Throw in flying time of 30 minutes and 45 minutes to an hour to get out of Dublin airport to the city and you are pushing close to 3 hours town to city. 2 A 20 minute walk isn't 'connected' to the rail line. If it's pouring rain, you have kids, elderly people and/or luggage then you will need a taxi and wait for one if it's busy. The average traveller isn't going to walk, although on a sunny day it looks like it could be a nice walk, on your own with no luggage. 3 Ryanair doesn't subsidise the flights but only time will tell if it's viable, most regional airlines receive huge taxpayers subsidies. Leaving that aside the average Ryanair flight to Dublin is 20 Euro each-way, but if you have luggage and want assigned seats etc etc it doubles very quickly. 4 Ryanair is a point to point airline so connecting with flights in Dublin is at your own risk, if your flight is delayed for any reason in Kerry and you miss your flight in Dublin - even if it is with RyanAir - then you have lost the price of the tickets and likely your whole holiday. 5 Alternatively, for example, the train from Killarney to the centre of Dublin takes 3 hours and 40 minutes with one change requiring you to walk from one platform across to the adjacent platform. And, critically, if you are over 65 it's 100% free, all rail/bus transport is free for this segment of the population in Ireland. No walking 20 mins, no security checks, no running with your bags, no paying for your bags. Even if you have to pay for the train it is still less than the train to Farranfore, the taxi to the airport, the flights themselves plus baggage costs and the public transport/taxi into Dublin from the distant Dublin airport. There is little doubt that Kerry Airport is ideal for those living close by and who are used to the route and can drive there or be dropped there and are commuting to areas close to Dublin Airport. Parking in kerry is relatively cheap i.e. 10 Euro per day to a max of 40 Euro for 8 days.
