WOWWWWWWW!! What an impressive tour de force by Gary Paul!! His encyclopedic knowledge of hundreds of mountains, glaciers, lakes and their rock types and history is just incredible! He is a treasure of the PNW! Additional thanks to Pat for generously flying Nick and Gary around the Cascades-Thank You Sir! Nick Zentner and Back Country Gary flying over an active Volcano....What could possibly go wrong? Pay attention Hollywood. Seriously, great video from a different aspect. I do remember Nick doing Helicopter flights over the Columbia River before on another channel, but, this takes it to another level. The scenery, from someone who lives in a flat Country, the Netherlands, is both amazing and beautiful and has the WOW factor at the same time. I do not think anyone was expecting this. Thank you guys, much appreciated.

What a gift! My High School Science teacher Ken Davis took me on a climb to Glacier Peak summit in 1969 when I was 16. That opened the door to a lifetime of mountaineering and exploration. At 71, my climbing days are over, but it is such a treat to revisit stony ground. I am shocked that most of the glaciers are gone. Those who doubt global warming are deluding themselves.

Absolutely fascinating. You get a general idea in your mind's eye of what a chewed-up mess the N Cascades is, but then you get view from the air and it's _incredible_ how jumbled-up the landscape is, and how jagged it's been made by the many periods of alpine glaciation. The extremes in relief just knock my socks off. Just as mind-boggling is Gary's cataloguing of each and every point on the landscape - a human encyclopedia/atlas. You guys all _rock!_ Thanks so much for this.

This has got to be one of my favorite KZbin videos. First was the ride in a beautiful classic airplane. What a gem. And then there was the spectacular scenery with the outstanding narration of what we were looking at. I've had the pleasure of hiking in this area and climbing many of the peaks. I had no idea this area was as geologically complex as it is. Things are starting to come together thanks to these videos, but I doubt I'll live long enough to fully understand it. Watching this video made me think of something Dr. Don Ringe said in a geomorphology class. Sometimes you have to get up in the air to get a good picture of what's really going on. Being involved with the Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management, Glacier Peak is on the watch list for natural hazards. There is a map on their website that shows where lahars would be expected to flow in the event of an eruption. There is some danger for the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River and the towns of Darrington, Arlington and Stanwood, but the real danger appears to be along the Sauk and Skagit Rivers and populated areas in Skagit County.

Nick! Gary! Pat! Wow oh WOW OH WOH! 🤩🤩🤩 Loved every moment of this from the WWI Flying Ace (pillow) to the sentiments of being in this community to listening to coordinated communications for landing and remembering how various communities overlap and contribute to one another. Seeing beloved mountains, ridges, and glacial remnants brings up memories of being in those beloved places and listening to Gary remark on the underlying geology is a gift. The moment I especially love is Gary's comment about realizing places that seem far apart are actually close together and that there's connections from the uplands to the lowlands. It reminded me of astronauts taking the first pictures of Earth from Space. Thank you?

One of things I learned in Geology class, is that the south slopes of Cascade mountains, volcanic or uplifted blocks, are more gentile sloping and easier routes than the north slopes. This is because the south slopes get more sunshine and have more freeze thawing that breaks up the rocks. So the "tourist route" for most climbers is a southerly approach and when climbers get together, they talk about their assents of north faces. For instance, I have never climbed up from Camp Muir to the summit, although I have been involved in search and rescue operations on that side. But I will gladly tell you about other routes on Mt Rainier that I have climbed. Also, as a former CWSC student, you can see the gentile south face of Mt Stuart as you roll into E'burg from the west exit of I-90 (exit 106). Climbing the north face is something you tell your friends about.
