Just made a donation...what an awesome organization I've never heard of! I'm absolutely convinced it's content creators such as yourself which will be our future as obviously mainstream media has not/will not focus on solving the problem. Yes, they'll report on it yet do little to offer avenues to solve them. Thanks for all you do!

We do beach cleanups in New York City. Paddling around you can see waste in the water as far down as the sunlight illuminates so as soon as you’ve cleaned one spot you know there’s more on the way. Very demoralizing. Stop using single-use plastic shopping bags, bottles, cups and straws people. We can survive without them.

Wow... you flew right by the Salmon hatchery (then called "Port San Juan", now AFK) that my dad ran and we lived at when I was about 7-9 years old (circa 1980). The Chenaga village wasn't there back then, but we'd boat across the bay in the Winter to cross country ski right where the landing strip is now. We'd be flown in and out of "town" (Cordova) on a Beaver (54Z and 55Z primarily). Just the sound of a Beaver about brings tears to my eyes to this day, and I often go "fly" by there in MSFS2020.

This is quite awesome! I'm a member of a local organization devoted to keeping the Baltic sea clean; live next to the sea; just yesterday collected quite an amount of thrash left behind by a storm. And I sail a lot. So something like this really is close to my heart.

The advice at the end, the practice with the survival gear, is so so important. Not just for aviation. More than a few people have died over the years while struggling the use the equipment that could have saved their lives.

As a scuba instructor...i ditched the knife for a pair of hard-core scissors years ago. Keep them tied to a belt or vest. Stainless or titanium scissors; the kind you cut pennies with. Put them in a suitcase - not carry-on. Rope and wires are easier and there is little chance of accidental injury.

So true about the knife. When I worked in SE Alaska I always had a one-hand operable knife ready to go. Used it constantly.

Flew a float plane for the first time couple of weeks ago in BC and absolutely loved it. Hooked on it now and I will definitely convert to a Canadian PPL as well so I can get the float plane rating on it. Hopefully, one day I can fly a Beaver too...

He is so right, out of sight out of mind. Nobody realizes the impact that happens on one continent can quadruple in the wrong direction in another. At least what you're doing helps to establish a future fix, every dollar helps !!

We fly the P8 at 200 ft when we’re tracking submarines. 50 feet is low. Although at 200 feet and such a big plane it does feel really low

Cool yeah - I guess we could have been more clear - Those ocean swells that seemed small from up there, were probably big enough to preclude a safe landing, or swamp the airplane shortly after managing to land.

Good title... and of course you knew the thumbnail was great. It was nice as a supporter that I watched the early release, but I enjoyed watching this again. Important messages here as well as great footage and adventures. It made a great distraction from the roller-coaster build: failure of my 4-yr-old unused boost pump; ultimate gust lock that didn't fit; faced with the fact that I will HAVE to buy a new crankshaft for Barrett to install. Good news: Anti-Splat Aero stepped up to make custom parts for my gust lock, Airflow Performance will rebuild my boost pump and Barrett can get a new crank right away. Yep. Quite the roller coaster. When in doubt... hang on tight and enjoy the ride. (sorry... I'm laughing as I just heard "let's get back on board the Beaver" again... I'm such a child sometimes...)

Fantastic video as always Steve. I have over the past decade become increasingly aware of just how much we impact our environment. Moreso since moving out of my parents house and buying a place of my own...you realise just how much pointless packaging there is. The UK government has recently in a round about way to allow the dumping of more raw sewage into the waters around our green and damp little island. I am hoping that the weather will allow me over the next few weeks to get up there and see if I can film any of it, it'll be slow going though my new steed, a Jodel D112 cruises at around 120kph indicated!

@@FlightChops Sadly as with everything at the moment they blame Covid in relaxing the rules on dumping due to a shortage of treatment chemicals. You have to wonder if somebody has taken a bung somewhere along the line though.

Yeah sorry - they haven’t officially launched yet I don’t think. The pandemic sort of stalled their plans - I expect they will be ramping up in 2022 though.

It’s so normal to fly low and slow here in Alaska, funny to hear the lower 48 people uncomfortable with it. Your only too low when your in the tree.

What are the rules about low flying in the US? In NZ, we're not allowed to fly lower than 500ft unless in a low flying zone

I believe the regs in the U.S. are similar to here in Canada... Essentially: You must be 1000' above and 2000' horizontally clear of any structure or people unless intending to land. However, if no structor or people, there is no low level limit to what the PIC decides is safe.

@@FlightChops U.S. regs are more liberal - for airplanes when not landing or taking off: 1000 above highest obstacle within 2000 lateral over 'congested' areas, 500 above surface uncongested, Open water/sparsely populated areas 500 away from person/vessel/vehicle/structure with no altitude minimum. All with the requirement to be able to do an emergency landing without endangering those on the ground. Helicopters pretty much just need to not bring back pine pitch or roofing tar on their skids. Thanks for the video. Interesting product placement by the KZbin advertisers though. I've seen an ad from the plastic bottle industry twice while watching the video ;-(

I'm sorry, am I missing something? You flew over a lot of water and coastline, but the only plastic pollution you showed were still pictures from the internet. I'm not saying it's not a problem in the world, but when you title the video "waters threatened by plastic", I uh, sorta wanted to see this threat, and didn't.

How many people does it take to Fly this single pilot airplane? I can appreciate the experience and leadership but one guys on the yoke while another is having to fuss with the throttles is a bit over the top.

“Throttles”? The way you’ve framed this comment makes me suspect you’re not a pilot, so I will explain: There is one throttle, but there are three levers: throttle, prop and mixture. Martin is very experienced operating this aircraft and getting the power settings (relationship between throttle and prop while monitoring manifold pressure and RPM) and mixture (looking at EGT, and CHT gauges as well as fuel flow) just right is a finicky process. My having little experience in the aircraft and flying low level over this terrain I was happy to have the crew member to manage that minutiae.
Even High Time Pilots find this Extremely Difficult!
