Part 1 of the 10 Percent True interview with C.W. Lemoine, also known as "Mover".
Mover is a USAF Reserve T-38A pilot with a background in the F-16C and F/A-18A+. In this first part of the interview, he explains how he got into flying, and what his experiences were leading up to his first operational assignment to the Viper.

While not a pilot, I have experienced the expanding SA bubble. I had done a dozen or so High Performance Driving events with my street cars on road race tracks. The first time was mind blowing. Later, it was easier as I knew what to expect. Then, I dabbled in road racing in the 24 Hours of LeMons series. First stint was another mind blown experience, trying to run as hard as I could without hurting the car or hitting any of the 100+ other cars on the track. By my fourth race, it was hardly more than driving on the freeway in heavy traffic. If the window net hadn't been there, I would have rested my left arm on the driver door window sill. It's about experience. The more you have, the easier things are. Keith Code wrote about it in his two "Twist of the Wrist" motorcycle racing/riding books.

Great video again! I spoke to an F-15 pilot who had also flown F-16 and he said the Eagle required more skill to fly because you could actually “pull the wings off it”. Whereas the f-16 you could just keep pulling.

Great interview so far! Hearing about the whole process of expanding the situational bubble is relatable to other endeavours, too. I wish I had videos and interviews like this accessible to me when I was in high school. I listened to and followed a lot of advice that turned out not to be “good” advice for the life I had intended to live. Worked out in the end, but different than I had thought. ;)

@@10percenttrue Well, I had always wanted to be a fighter pilot from an early age, and to attend one of three military colleges here in Canada. The advice I got from high school counselors was to take lots of maths and science, so I went overboard on those. The problem was that I had difficulty with the the advanced mathematics, and didn't do as well as I had hoped to. Still, the grades were good enough, so I started the process of enrolling in the ROTP program. The problem was that in the year I graduated, 2 of the 3 military colleges were closed, and the grades to get in went WAAAAY up! I suddenly didn't make the grade. The offer then on the table was to join up in a different specialty, get my university and then try from the inside to get commissioned and a flight training slot, but it I was pretty discouraged wasn't too keen on it. I then decided to go the civilian route, and was about 20 hours short of getting my commercial license, but had some financial / family issues and had to postpone it for a couple years. Couple years in, I get back in the game only to lose my commercial medical (cat1) due to a previously undiagnosed medical problem. Fought to get and maintain at least my my private medical clearance (cat3), which I was successful at. Now, I work in a different industry and fly as a private pilot on the side. I've got good friends in the aviation industry, so I get my aviation fix from that, fly and create content for DCS for fun.

@@sedlo Sorry to hear that the maths stumped you, Sim. Did you at least get into the cockpit of something?

Moral of the story was that I didn't have to do advanced Calculus and Chemistry courses in order to get in. I often wonder if I had stuck to subjects that I was keen on if I would have made the cut..... But that's the way it worked out, and I'm happy with it.
