An exploratory couple of laps of the Mach Loop in Snowdonia - where NATO train their pilots for low-level flight - in the JustFlight Hawk, using the Tobii Eye Tracker 5 - to see if it makes it easier or more difficult. I'm undecided.

I love my Tobii eye tracker. TrackIR too, but with Tobii, there's no clip to worry about - it's just there all the time, ready to go. Great flying, by the way. I really must learn the Mach Loop.

Not my best flying - a bit jagged in places. Not smooth. Still learning the Tobii :)

A fun ride with you! It takes a while when using eye tracking, because the HEAD tracking is moving at something like a 2 to 1 ratio, and the EYE tracking is at 1 to 1. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to that.

The vast majority completely kill the eye tracking or drop it to virtually nothing. But you seemed to have gotten through it. Nice one, it's off-putting and makes my eyes ache. At least someone uses it

My instinct is that eye tracking is better than no tracking but that head tracking is more reliable than eye tracking, as you'll not always want the view to follow yours eyes.

I love my TrackIR. Never fly without it. Curious about the Tobii, though and I'd like to see some more comparisons.

Have both, never use the eye tracker, just couldn't get on with it but that could be personal preference. Trackir all the way for me

Great Video! I wanted to ask you how you set up your tca throttle with the bae146, because my idle position on the tca quadrant still has the engines running at 25% and only when I apply thrustreverse I get 0%
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett Жыл бұрын
Well... the BAE146 doesn't have reversers - so I unlock them on the quadrant, giving me the full throw.

Hi Jonathan - quick question if I may? I just checked out the special price and noticed the option to also buy the "Tobii Eye Tracker Mounting Kit." as an extra purchase. I'm a little confuddled - is that for a specific use case or is it a requirement to mount the tracker to the bottom of any monitor? In other words - did you need the mounting kit in addition to the tracker? Thanks! 😊
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett Жыл бұрын
You get a mount with it - the mounting kit just has extras in it, as far as I understand.

How big a screen do you need for these to work well? 32" or more? 27" big enoughh? I assume they need to see "enough" head movement?
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett Жыл бұрын
the sensor takes care of that - and you can tune it. They recommend no bigger than 30" - but I've heard of people with far larger monitors doing fine with it.

i just dont see the point in the tracker when you can buy a decent VR headset for not much more. that way you have full immersion

i have 3 screens can you set Tobii for center screen only?
@jonbeckett
@jonbeckett Жыл бұрын
The Tobii eye tracker uses it's own sensor - so you would put it underneath the screen you want to use.

Alternatively, how to fly the Mach Loop properly kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4XbqYusbr2bmK8 You are set up too far back in the cockpit. You should not be easily able to see the foot pedals. The instrument panel is only about a semi-bent arm distance in front of you. I've done the Mach Loop for real a few times in a RAF Hawk. Ex Red Arrows back seat engineer with about 100hrs real Hawk flying. There is an error in MSFS2020 the railway bridge across the estuary from Barmouth isn't shown. Pity its quite a significant structure. Hawks rarely land at Llanbedr. When I was at Valley, there was 1 Hawk based there, but Valley based Hawks only ever landed at Llanbedr if they had a fault or as a result of a birdstrike.

Yep - I did that purposely, to give people a wider view. I've done it more correctly in the past - this was just a first look at doing it with the Tobii eye tracker.
