Flying the updated JustFlight Turbo Arrow III from Wycombe Air Park to London Oxford in MSFS

For those curious, I had noticed the Pipers are not updated on the Marketplace and so I inquired on the justflight forums this morning and they said they sent the planes last night and that we should expect them sometime early next week depending on MS/Asobo schedule.

They never got around to updating them on the Marketplace for the previous July 2022 update, so I wouldn't hold my breath. But I have a feeling it's not a Just Flight problem, but a Microsoft approving planes for Marketplace problem. But they should allow marketplace customers to show proof a purchase and provide them updated files if requested.. you would think.

@@truespirit JF did their part in terms of sending them the data last night. Let's hope but given that a number of the updates were for XBox use, I suspect we will see it on the Marketplace soon. JF I think would probably give MS/Asobo a hard time as a developer if they put that much work in specifically to get it ready for the marketplace. I am assuming there is no piper available at the moment for Xbox users.

I don't see it mentioned often so I'll say now I really appreciate the way you balance the volumes in your videos - you're very easy to hear, and we can still hear the plane. So many people virtually mute the sim so they're not competing with it ... There's a secret squirrel vertical speed control ?? OMG I wanted that from day 1, I'm in !! My amateur brain is thinking the prop should have been full forward on the approach to give it more bite if needed and help slow the plane down, full back like you had it would be getting close to feathered drag ?

21:45 if you change waypoints you need to touch the obs knob on the hsi one more time.. like back and forth for the gps to catch on .. also at 23:57 the ILS didn't come on because you are still in GPS mode on the G530 which makes the hsi and nav1 instrument show the course deviation from your GPS track I think.

Yep - I caught the CDI mode afterwards too. Most of the small mistakes that creep in are usually due to talking. I'm rubbish at multi-tasking.

Thanks for the video, Jonathon! The reason you didn't get the ILS is because your 530 CDI was set to GPS. Should be set to VLOC and then it will work just fine!

@ 3:25, by putting the lever into the middle position you didn't disable a gear retraction system but enabled the automatic gear extension system. This is a safety feature which automatically extends the landing gear when the power is below 14 inches of manifold pressure and the airspeed is below 87 KIAS. It's recommended to have the lever in the up position (disabling the system) during take-off, stall manoeuvres and slow flight, and to maximise the glide range of the aircraft.

It's an interesting one - the advice I have seen is that on climb out to a relatively low altitude you would leave flaps down until top of climb - it's another area where different people say different things.

Just bought the Turbo Arrows but yet to fly. Do you have the freeware or payware GNS530. If the latter, is it worth it in your opinion? I also bought the 146 and Hawk T1 as well so fun times 🙂

I'm using the stock GNS 530 - it has most of the Working Title upgrades in it as of a recent sim update - so it's a lot better now that it was in the past.

A nice vid helped me a fair bit. Question I have this on Xbox the black blank plate for attitude hold I can't seem to scroll with the mouse for Vs,vnav adjustment it just zooms in and out am i missing something? Cheers

Are you using some mod, that GNS530 shows boot up procedure, gathering sats, etc.? Mine is instant on. Same applies to gps keyboard input. Mine does not have that small keyboard icon. Thanks.

Regarding the beacon light, I think you need the turn the little scroll wheel to the left of the battery switch to 100%

@@jonbeckett I know, but I’m 80% sure it also seems to affect beacon lights. That might be correct or a bug, I don’t know. I’ve done two flights in the updated Pipers so far, and am sure I’ve seen the beacon lights work. But you’re making me doubt myself now 😀

@@jonbeckett i just read the forums because i just bought these birds during the Easter sale, and only have had a quick go once since sadly. i thought the beacon was broken. tried the rotating switch, doesnt work. just now looked at forums and as of 9 days ago, it is broken and will be fixed in a small update, apparently. no time line as to when though. naturally...

Can you pre-load a flight plan file from a little nav map flight plan? I use that in xplane .

You can - you can load a PLN file in the main menu of flight simulator, which is then pre-loaded into the Garmin. It doesn't work on the more "study level" aircraft, but I like programming it within the aircraft anyway.

As somebody else commented - I didn't switch the CDI over - which is why I had no ILS signal on the HSI. That's what happens when you have no checklist, and are "winging it" while talking :)

I have tried to follow your flights and I can't make it work in quite the same way. I think really it's just a case not having so much automation so the workload is very high. I keep trying though.

I tend to hand fly quite a bit - one of the lessons I've learned from real pilots :)

If just using a screen and trying to look down at instruments/switches etc it becomes impossible to safely keep an eye outside. What many of us do in that situation is to have another monitor or 2 with the equivalent instruments/switches on. This enables a continuous view outside and of the cockpit items just like it would be in a real aircraft. It’s much more realistic and immersive having a setup like this. There are many examples of the instrument panels used on my YT channel if anyone is interested.

@@jonbeckett it’s just not the same in VR because you have to use some form of non realistic/immersive control method. G1000 FMS control for instance. Until a realistic control method for VR comes to the fore for the home user I’ll stick with as realistic and versatile external cockpit as I can get. AR may be the answer but that remains to be seen.

I have a challenge with this kite, Jon. The ipad doesn't seem to flip to the next page (that is the navigraph and map page) with a click of the power button as yours did in this video. I have just refownloaded it using the downloader. Haven't forgotten to click on something, have I?

When you say "redownloaded it using the downloader", what are you talking about ? I bought it from the JustFlight website - and downloaded from there.

@@jonbeckett It's all very strange because I also bought it from the JustFlight website but somehow it doesn't show on my purchase list. So I went to my downloads and found a file (which I assume to be that first to go down after a successful purchase) and when I triggered it, a larger download followed. I was asked for the code (I normally store this separately after every purchase) and this was accepted the aircraft popped up in my hanger. Dunno what else I should be doing or should have done. My order list only shows the Analog King Air, Caravan, Baron and the Bonanza.
