I've been dreaming of building the Zenith Super Duty for a long time. Yesterday I finally flew out to the factory and took a demo ride with Roger. Not only did I get to fly the SD but Sebastien gave me and my buddy Brian a tour of the entire factory.
If you are interested in building a Zenith kitplane, I highly recommend you take the time to visit the factory and also go for a ride in the plane you are interested in building and flying. It's a fantastic way to see how these kits are manufactured and how well they fly!
I've cut out some parts in order to keep the video to a reasonable length, but you will see my demo flight in the amazing CH-750 Super Duty.

This was great; just what I hoped it would be. I have no time in a Cruzer or an SD. I figured you would offer some valuable initial impressions about flight characteristics between the two aircraft, which you did. It's nice to hear these things from someone who has no stake in stating these things other than an interest to let subscribers and followers know what you thought. Thank you for going to all this trouble

Thanks for the video I’m considering th HD too in about a year or so. Did you get to a good cruise speed? I’ve heard them say 100 to 110 mph but never see them do it. I would love some confirmation!!!
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
I actually didn't even pay attention to the airspeed. I think we were flying at about 85-90 mph if I remember correctly. But Roger said he had the power pulled back. The cruise speed was one of the things I wanted to ask about when I was there but was just enjoying flying the plane that I forgot to ask! I'm not sure how they have the pitch set on the prop either. By the way the airplane jumps off the ground I'm guessing they might have it set with a little less pitch for the good climb performance. That of course will slow it down in cruise.

Will you consider flaing other planes before purchasing? Zlin savage? The new on is aluminium wing.
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael - Probably the most difficult part of building a kitplane is just deciding which one you want! I knew that for my next airplane, I wanted a STOL type airplane. STOL is getting very popular now and it's really interesting to me. I have plans to one day move out West and do lots of bush type flying so I looked at a few different STOL airplanes and then settled on the Super Duty. There are lots of variables and things to consider because it seems like every airplane offers something that the others don't. But in the end, the SD was my top choice.

That big metal rectangular box for switches in front of your forehead is ridiculously big and looks like a nasty head banger. You may want to wear a helmet flying that plane. I don't like how he had to keep switching hands while in the pattern.
@KitplaneEnthusiast
@KitplaneEnthusiast 4 жыл бұрын
I may have cut that part out, but Roger talked about how, if he could do it again, he would move some of the switches around to make so that he does not have to keep switching hands. Remember this is the prototype aircraft and they take a lot of the 'lessons learned' from this aircraft and make the kits even better.

I don’t know why they don’t make the slats retractable. So much cruise drag just to lower stall speed by 10 knots or so. Retractable slats like the Just Superstol incorporates would be awesome. Otherwise, the Cruzer makes more sense to me.
