In the RC world where I operate, this is typically the norm as the model airplanes are way overpowered. This proves it that some people can also repeat this feat with real airplanes. Thanks for sharing.
@SirFloofy0014 жыл бұрын
@Brian Wilson Yes its just much much harder to scale up that power to weight ratio of an RC plane because typically with lifesized scaled the components are much heavier for any given PWR of an RC. Balsa wood and foam board don't scale up very well strength wise.
@ahdofu4 жыл бұрын
Quite right. In general real airplanes are designed for a mission say to carry a payload for a given range whilst meeting all the safety & certification requirements and they need to be producible at a profit. We don't have these constraints in RC airplanes. Everything is single threaded, the airframe is balsa with plastic covering and since economics don't matter, we typically go with the highest output engine that the airframe can withstand. There are exceptions of course where some people strive to be scale like but here I am talking sport/3D flyers. Coming to real airplanes, although the same aerodynamic principles apply, constraints and requirements are different and consequently this means that you just don't see an airplane that Steve Henry has created in practice.

i am waiting for a day when some dare devil STOL pilot would land and takeoff on a helipad on top a building.
@tome19034 жыл бұрын
The takeoff wouldnt be too much of an issue for most STOL planes, but the landing might be a bit sketchy depending on conditions

@@tome1903 yeah with varying winds and stuff it could be dangerous but i am waiting for a mad man to do it...

NO WAY is that 6ft... The tyre circumference is 8ft and the wheel had rotated 5/8 of a revolution at take off. It's 5ft dammit. Ridiculiculousness

Hats off, Man. That's fabulous. Thanks for the commentary too. Only a fly needs a shorter run up! Ideal plane for getting medicines to mountain villages. Great taste in music too!
