I'm a railroad conductor and PPG pilot and I mentioned this very bridge in the earlier vid when you flew under the Delaware viaduct. Glad you did it. This bridge rocks and glad you did the flight. Fly safe man!!!!!

The Nicholson Viaduct, originally know as the Tunkhannock Viaduct, was the largest of four viaducts built by the Delaware Lackawanna and Wester railroad (aka the DLandW or the Lackawanna), and was the icing on top of a massive construction project known as the Lackawanna cutoff. The cutoff, in essence, aimed to level and straighten as much of the railroad as possible. It also included a series of tunnels, and a large elevated "cutoff" of compacted dirt, which leveled the railroad over the smaller rolling plains and eliminated almost all level crossings, with almost all road crossings replaced with bridges or small tunnels over the said roads. The project aimed to modernize a huge stretch of the railroad, and was considered a huge success when the entire project, massive viaducts, tunnels, and cutoffs accounted, paid itself off in under 10 years with the reduced times and increased train traffic that flowed over the system, and it drastically increased safety due to the near elimination of level crossings. A few more facts is that the Tunkhannock Viaduct took and held the title of largest concrete structure for over 50 years, a title it took from the paulinskill viaduct, built a few years prior for the same project.

As a hang glider pilot I was taught that if you had to land in a tree, pick the biggest, bushy one, flare into it, and grab the biggest branch you can. Had to do that once, it worked. For train landings, make sure you are going in the same direction as the train, no flair, grab onto any thing that protrudes and hang on for the ride (okay, disregard I never had train landing instruction) :)
@xephonism6 жыл бұрын
Thats pretty much what we are told as paramotor pilots. Although I would rather whatever it takes to get as low as possible first. Getting your glider in a tree sucks big time, its so difficult to get out. I managed to fly my glider on landing into a tree once, I landed on the ground but the wing was up in the tree. It took me about an hour to get the tree to give it back.

I have watched many of your videos. This one boy you really made me nervous a few times. I'm currently 57 years old and you almost have me ready to trade my Buckeye 582 Dream machine in for a Para glider like you all have in this video. I'm glad you don't have my nerves because your videos would be boring to watch. I know you pay attention and will continue to do so. When you get to be my age you will reflect back to your young life. I know I sure do and too bad when I was your age I didn't have the technology that you do now. Trust me I would have captured some great stunts that I pulled while being safe. Happy and Safe Flying. You sure bring a smile to me with your videos. I can just imagine what that baby oil smoke smells like.

As for the question "who builds a giant viaduct in Northeastern Pennsylvania?" the answer would be the Lackawanna Railroad trying to get up to Binghamton and Buffalo from Scranton and Hoboken. The bridge at the Water Gap was on the same line before that part closed.

Hi Tucker just watched the video and whilst you are a fine paramotor pilot, it only takes one unforseen element/error of judgement going under that viaduct, and lets face it, it could be any number of things that might go wrong and it's all over. As I say, you have well mastered the skill of flying the paramotor but taking risks like that whilst thrilling at the time could one day be your undoing. I really enjoy watching your flying video's and don't want to be negative but flying unnecessary dangerous manoeuvres is risky. Best of luck with your flying and look forward to the next one. Fly safe!!!!!!!!

Please be careful, we know you’re good and we love your vids. You just worried me a bit when you said you’re safer than most pilots.
