I haven’t flown like forever. I don’t like announcements no matter where they are. While waiting to board or on the plane. Great tips!! Thank you!!

Don't worry! You're not missing out on much! ;) I didn't fly much before Joel and I got married but I have flown so much since. I used to be scared to fly, not anymore, though! I'm glad the video helped!! :)

I’m more comfortable traveling with someone else who can hear normally, I depends on them like I did with my dog.

I just got back from flying Delta and was impressed that when I step onboard and let the stewardesses know I am hearing impaired, they usually tell me my seat number! They clearly were informed a woman with hearing loss was traveling that day. They also let me board early to get situated and let the stewardesses in the back know about my hearing impairment (I’m severe to profound.). I don’t have a Roger mike and didn’t figure out a way to stream to my hearing aids…. I had trouble on my flight out with getting My Phonak app to work which is how I control my hearing aids. But did on the way back and then I can use adjustments to greatly reduce ambient noise and also lower the volume. I appreciated your educating in a comment answer about DAI cable. Something for me to look into, but a cochlear implant is probably in my future. Funny note: There was someone to greet me with a my name and a wheelchair when I deplaned! She didn’t speak good English and had a hard time understanding I did not need a wheelchair.😂

I absolutely prefer to fly with Delta and am thrilled to hear you had a positive experience. Yes, it is silly though that some still don’t get that a hearing loss doesn’t require a wheel chair 😂

I have never flown with hearing aids but I do go on trains & buses! I have to turn them off when going on the underground railway! The noise makes my ears want to explode! So it's interesting to hear how you get on Flying! Another amazing video thank you! 💐

Ahhh! I've never had to turn off my aids in a train - maybe they go faster in the U.K.! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :)

@@DefiniteHearing it's like your in a tin can when you use the underground railway,the carriages bang about! & Other hearing aid wearers I have spoken too turn theirs off,even the audiologists warn you that it's one place you can damage what little hearing you have left! Unlike the quiet over ground railways! ☹️

Maybe you still didn't adapted to it at the time because wearing hearing aids, you basically hear the same as the one's without hearing problem

Every time I go on a long flight my ears get totally plugged up and that’s on to of my profound hearing impairment. So when you land in a country where the predominate language is not English the things you described are magnified exponentially. If the speaker has an accent and/or an unfamiliar cadence then speech reading pretty much goes out the window. My wife is a master at helping me get through these situations. She listens to the speaker and then repeats it to me so I can lip read her. Not ideal but we get through it.

I know what you mean! Thank heavens for your wife! What is your favorite place to travel to?
@utubejeff13 жыл бұрын
@@DefiniteHearing Where do we most like to travel? Rome, hands down. Where else but Rome can you visit huge domed church that has been used as a house of worship for 2000 years (The Pantheon), a chapel and painting by Renaissance master Raphael at the Cappella Chigi (1513-1514) at the Basilica di S. Maria del Popolo, Or walk in any time and see statues by Michelangelo in the churches Basilica Santa Maria sopra Minerva or San Pietro in Vincoli? All within easy walking distance of each other, no line and free. Skip the normal tourist destinations and visit the rest. Instead of standing in a hot line for hours at the Colosseum, hop on the subway and go to Circus Maximus where Ben Hur raced his chariot. Totally deserted and free; the buildings are not there any more but the contours of the stands and track are. Take a walk around the track and say “Buon giorno” to the locals walking their dogs.

Got my first hearing aids in the last month. Still struggling getting used to them, but I never knew how much I couldn’t hear!

That’s one fact about hearing aids: they take time to get used to!!

Cool video, I have Single Sided Hearing loss in my left ear ,just wondering how you deal with the air pressure when the plane takes off and lands. Its been a while since I've traveled on a plane since my idiopathic SSHL 2yrs ago so im a little nervous and looking at videos of people who travel with hearing loss.
@DefiniteHearing2 жыл бұрын
I do the Valsalva maneuver to reduce pressure. Google it. Happy travels!

Is the Roger and other brands' versions of it all comparable with different hearing aid brands? And do you take your HAs out for a body scan?
@DefiniteHearing4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Roger and Resound's mics are similar. I haven't tried other brands. And no, I do not take my hearing aids out for the body scan. :)
@corinnecoleman27514 жыл бұрын
Sean Fortine My favorite is definitely the Multi Microphone from Resound because I can use the DAI cable to plug into the headphone jack in order to stream audio for movies or media- GAME CHANGER- :) Phonak’s Roger Pen is really comparable to Resound’s Multi Mic, but it is bigger and seems to be a little less user friendly than the Resound Multi Mic. Oticon’s Connect Clip does not provide the DAI option, and Starkey just released a streamer that I have heard people have been happy with but haven’t tried myself. Siemens, from what I am aware of, does not offer a streamer of sorts. Hope that helps!! It all depends on what hearing aids you have! Talk to your audiologist, they can help you know the specific differences between all these listening devices! Happy Travels!

What app would you recommend that might as well translate into aother language if possible. If not, thats fine. I am using google transcribe but it is not very good and only works half of the time and its not as sensitive.

Do you fly with your hearing aids in? I am a new wearer. Having a difficult time. The first time I flew with them in and was not too good with that. Then I flew without them. My hearing seems worse and flying bothers my ears. Any suggestions? My audiologist is kind but I would like an opinion from a wearer.
@DefiniteHearing4 ай бұрын
Great question! I wear them through security and boarding then turn them off at take off. It gets sooooo loud. I put them in if/as needed during the flight. (I didn’t usually get them in fast enough for pilot announcements but I don’t think hearing people can understand those either :P ) My advice: keep trying different things. You’ll find what you prefer and what works for you. 😃
