I copied the hanger café concept with my farm shop, set up a bar and grill. It's nice, the kids can climb around on the farm machinery, sit in the cabs etc... busy time of year coming up, with have a very popular place near us called "The Psycho Silo" that draws people in from all over the country. We're a good stopping point for those people, especially the bikers, they can ride right in to the shop and park their bikes in line, which gives us another attraction to draw in locals. Those bikes are pretty amazing. You re the best PR this company has had in a long time Ernie! One can feel the spirit of Herb through you, and we need that quite frankly. Not getting into that class B is a good sign actually, the juices are flowing again.

Love your positivity! After a long week I always look forward to your videos. Hey I’m 35 with 3 kids I have my private looking at starting my instrument and maybe a new career in the airlines. I was wondering if you could comment on the challenges of being an airline pilot with kids?
@FlyingwithBigErn3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick! Congrats it is a great career but filled with challenges of course. The worst for me was leaving my kids to fly while they’re young. I feel like I missed out on a lot of their growing up. And that was when I was flying full time in the Air Force with long haul missions. I don’t do those anymore but my kids are now older. I would just say make sure your are present when you get home. Not just physically but emotionally as well for them. If that means playing barbies or GI Joe for 2 hours when you have house stuff to do, then it’s time to get the Kung fu grip or the nail salon out. They would remember your absence as much as they’ll remember those times. All the best in your journey. Cheers!

I’m curious of your opinion. When I took my multicomm check ride, the examiner frowned when I went below the papi after I had the runway made. He said are those airline standards? This was a single engine ILS.
@FlyingwithBigErn3 жыл бұрын
It’s called a “Duck Under” and I wouldn’t recommend doing it on a checkride. Especially with a SE approach simulating instrument conditions. I use it on visual approaches when exiting the runway quickly is preferable, like busy airports. Hope that helps! Cheers!

Hey man, I love the content. One of the best parts of my Fridays. Had a quick question. Just got my rejection letter from USAFA and am now going to ASU. I'm going to re-apply next year to USAFA but if I don't get it, I'll go through ROTC at ASU. In the event that I get rejected again next year, what's the best way to help guarantee a pilot slot? Thank you! Again, love the vids.
@FlyingwithBigErn3 жыл бұрын
Hi Liam! I’m sorry to hear that my friend but am encouraged by your drive. You’ll get there. I will say there is no guarantees in either avenue. Pilot slots are lost all the time for medical and other reasons. With that knowledge I would say pursue the avenue that interests you most. If it’s the AFA go for it. ASU is a great school as well but I am a bit biased😁. Whatever decision you chose make sure you cherish the journey and learn as much as you can. Best of luck!
@gregthegroove3 жыл бұрын
Quick question Ern. When you hop on the Green Hornet and you go up I noticed you have to wear an oxygen cannula? This is obviously because it’s not pressurized, but what’s the rules for that? Is that through a certain block of altitude? If you stay below a certain alt do you not have to wear it? Thnx man!
@FlyingwithBigErn3 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct Greg. I usually put it on above 10,000 but the rule is above 12,500 to 14,000 you need supplemental O2 after 30 min. Find I feel pretty bad if I don’t use O2 above 10,000. Just me I guess. Cheers!

Absolutely love your channel and how incredibly humble and professional you are. However, I was disappointed to see in Part 1, was seeing your Chief Pilot wearing a Nike shirt. It’s not my place to discuss politics on your channel, but to see these great, Air Force veterans who are obviously very proud of their country, give credence to a company that rewards individuals who kneel for our National Anthem, when so many have fought and sacrificed their life for our flag. Love your channel, just disappointed how a veteran can be that disconnected with the current threat of patriotism.
