Great video! The 400 is a beast of an airplane and awesome XC machine. I own a Mooney M20C and a Piper Dakota. Having fun in your own plane is the biggest feeling of freedom I can think of in this life.

@@FlyingGrimaud Nope, Joyce actually is my wife, (I’m Lindsay). We ran Thomas Aviation in Akron Ohio back in the 1990’s. We had a Piper Archer as IFR trainer and Cessna 150 as basic trainer. We had a blast and met lots of wonderful folks. I’ve had a heart valve replacement and probably can’t get a physical to fly now, but still keep my eyes open to aviation. Cheers !!

I actually don't know off the top of my head. I fly a piper Seminole so all of the numbers in my head are from the Seminole. Just from spit balling I believe it is somewhere around 1,450.

We were flying from KCAE (Colombia Metropolitan, SC) to KHSD (Sundance, OK). What you see in the video however is the halfway point of Tupelo Mississippi (KTUP). Total distane was 780 NM. And no this plane is no longer for sale. It was recently sold.

We used to operate one many decades ago in freighter trim - just the pilot’s seat. Empty landings were problematic because of the c of g . As we rounded out we got used to raising he flaps .....the aircraft would flare automatically.......it was a beautiful thing. Just make sure it’s the flaps though -))

I and my mate rent and fly Comanches and more recently, Archers, out of Bankstown airport in Sydney, at least once a year when the weathe starts to cool. We do it with an instructor in the right seat and have the option of 6 different flight plans. I dream about Pipers.

My old mate and I will never be licenced, never be a pilot in command, but we are well supported to participate in general aviation and we do it all over Sydney and surrounding areas. We have even entered Sydney Harbour, and I routinely spot whales on the Sydney coastline at 500 feet. I hope to see more videos from you. I have one edited and ready to go, but I hope to get good advice on how to do a good job labeling it first. Cheers!

@@garybaldwin1061 my dad sold this plane about 3 years back. But I can tell ya it was 185 TAS in cruise (somewhere around 8,000 msl or so) at around 20ish GPH. But to be honest, I’m going off memory on the GPH. I can tell ya 185 tas was correct though.

Thanks for reaching out, my dad had this plane for about 17 years. As of two years ago he sold it to a new owner so I can't give you up to date costs with the current market. I do know that on average the annual was in the 2-3k range but the occasional 10k if things landed all at once. An overhaul is available because the engine is essentially just two Lycoming IO-360's bolted together.

@@RaceMentally I'd say just like anything, depends on your mission. Comanches are great airplanes that fly fast. cruise at 185kts burning 20 GPH but they also have their issues. Its a heavy and old airplane. They commonly have gear issues. My dad had a gear failure multiple times, luckily the backup release worked, but thats more money to fix it. His most expensive annual was 13k. This was about four years ago so with current prices, I assume that would be closer to 16k.

most people that look at this type of video are PILOTS, as many said, music sucks and as you said the IO 720 also sucks (GAS), but it sounds great doing it! Scans of the instrument panal would be a nice thing if you can, I miss my Comanche N6591P, stay safe and enjoy!

hardchines I agree, this was my first video and has been two years since I made it. If I end up doing one again, I will leave it all natural. Thank you for the suggestions. I stopped videoing due to it being a distraction while flying and if I have to pick a KZbin video or safety, I’m going to pick safety. But if I’m ever with my dad and he is flying instead of me, I might just have to get a new Comanche video. Thank you for the feedback!

Christopher Babb I thought the same thing after I got my ppl and first flew with my dad and then I tried flying the Comanche with 1 hand. The sucker is so heavy that it is very difficult to control without two hands on takeoff. He has thousands of hours flying T-38’s and C-130’s for special forces so I am not too concerned about his safety at this point.

@@emm747 We see 185 Kts cruise speed although with a good tailwind, I have even seen 215 kts before. The Gph is not great. I will have to fact check with my father but I believe it is 19 GPH.

PLEASE! Turn the music down and your vocal audio up! There's nothing more frustrating than trying to hear the talking thru that loud music. If you want music in it at all, make sure it's lower than the talking. We Pilots like to hear the comments of people flying and the radio talk.

gut wrenching listening to the starter grinding away because of no fuel primer usage, and then the engine going to 1500 rpm with no oil pressure. Yikes !! Aircraft abuse.!!

I appreciate the concern but it is actually because it was running really hot. It was just flown from south carolina to mississippi and was already very hot. Considering it is a 8-Cylinder, it is like starting a harley when hot. I assure you that the plane is well taken care of and in good hands.

Is there some reason you take your hand off the throttle and put both hands on the yoke while rotating? I mean other than you are a poorly trained pilot?

Jeff Langstrom I apologize that you think that but he flew T-38’s and C-130’s for the USAF. The reason is because the Comanche 400 is an extremely powerful aircraft and very heavy. The yoke is very heavy. When I was first getting my flight training, I asked him the same question because it goes against everything I have learned. I appreciate the question but next time please be a bit more understanding and less hostile.

You know it's bad enough that as viewers we have to listen to all the ATC chatter but to have to listen to that annoying music on top of all that chatter is just too much. May I suggest no music in future videos. It's not really necessary. It adds zero to the video quality or story.

EastTexan Just our of curiosity, are you a pilot? Most pilots I know prefer to have the ATC chatter. I agree about the music however. You must understand that this video is very old now and I was New at editing and flying when I made it. I would like to make a new video but it is a ton of work.

the last time I was PIC was in 1988. At that time I had appx 750hrs as a SEL PP. At the height of my flying, there just wasn't the control that I listen to now in these type videos. I got my PP license in 1965. It was so different back then. Flying was fun and pleasant. And when it became work, I quit. I meant no disrespect in my earlier comment. I just don't like music in most videos. Best wishes here on out.

Derredmax Ha! Yes if you are with the flight instructor. That is my dad so it would be illegal for me to have flown his plane as the pic. I got my license a few months ago and was planning on posting a new video a few weeks ago but I ended up being out of town for the last month and a half.
