As a Dutch viewer its very bittersweet to me. By the letter of the law, yes it is a foul and it can be given as a penalty, but at the same time Kane got his shot away before there was contact and it was going to Mars, and then he himself kicks Dumfries with the followthrough of his shot, so to give the penalty feels like a wrong application of the rules. That being said, i do believe that Englands individual quality would've been too much for us to handle anyway, but the referee did take away any chance we had.

Fair assesment, but .....(and its a big but) 1) Weather or not Kane got his shot away is NOT actually a factor in the refs decisions in this case (getting your shot off is never considered when deciding if something is a clear goalscoring oppertunity ...you can get your shot away and be brought down in the process) 2) who initiated the contact (Kane did) is actually incindental The defender shouldnt be challenging another player with his foot that high to begin with (its an instant bookable offence ...hence why he was booked) So yeah ..it sucks, but i think the rules were applied correctly on this occasion

@@TonySpike I know youre right, thats why i said by the letter of the law a penalty can be given, but it just feels like the rules are wrong in this situation. For me, a penalty should be awarded when a defender unlawfully prevents or stops a goalscoring opportunity. That was clearly not the case here, as the chance was already gone & completed with Kane getting his shot away, and Dumfries not even being the one to initiate the contact either. So again, yes by law the penalty is valid, but is it fair? Is the law correct here? For me, no it isnt. It just sucks to lose because of that.

It's awarding penalties like the harry kane one is what makes the game less enjoyable for me. Both goals were unfair. Since the pass from the goalie to watkins was a corner not a free kick, an English player touched the ball with his head last and went over the backline, instead of a corner it was a free kick for the goalie, and the pass from the goalie turning into the 2nd goal. And the free kick from the goalie was a corner since the English player touched the ball last which is usually a corner but the ref did a funny and gave them a free kick that turned into the 2nd goal. 100% undeserved win
