@@sjm8510 I agree with everything you said. I started my dealership because I hated both new and used dealerships. I’ve been swindled and bamboozled many times as well. I wanted to do it right. Unfortunately the many kinds of people associated with the business I just didn’t vibe with. My background is in artificial intelligence and have patents in online commerce. I spent most of my life in tech, finance, and medical. The car business is actually quite easy and dealers can definitely make money being honest. There are good and honest dealers but they’re are certainly the minority. My advice to everyone buying a car: 1. Get financing outside of the dealer. Even if they’re offering 0% financing. 2. Get a Carfax. If they don’t provide it for free, then I wouldn’t deal with them. 3. Take a long test drive 20-25 minutes. 4. Bring a friend or family member who can witness the sale. 5. Ask for a discount. And always remember there’s millions of cars available to buy. Never put your self in a “I need this now” mentality. 2023-2024 is the revenge of the customers. It’s certainly going to be a buyer’s market. I’m buying in Q3 of 2023 since that’s when prices should be the lowest.

@@matthewsalmon2013 Auctioneers, pre-inspections, and if there is a detail sheet at auctions clearly indicate details of the cars at auctions, if something is misrepresented the auction house takes the hit. Engine swaps were common from rental companies hence why the big companies rent V6 Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers anymore.... I'll say it again, this guy wanted a viral video, he got it, and thousands of comments. Auctions aren't predatory, if a car shows up with no info and if you're at a salvage or trade-in auction with your dealers license, that's why you showed up 4 hours early to inspect it.

Well technically you are correct. Except the engines were all the same 4.6L 3 V and had no differences. The Shelby GT packages were suspension and badge kits, that's it. While that car isn't a GTH, it would have been the same 4.6L engine.

Dealers will do it too. Back in 2000, I was looking at a 97 GT. It had an SVO badge on the back and the dealer had it marked like $7-8,000 over book. He told me it was due to being an SVO. I had to tell him that SVO was disbanded in the 80’s and came back in the 90’s as SVT. There’s crooks everywhere.

A engine shop next to my shop had a customer the bought a 66 big block number mating corvette, 427 4 speed. The motor had been modified, he brought it in to de tune it some . But the engine was a 390. Someone ground the numbers off the block and replace them w/epoxy mold. The owner contacted the well known auction house. The sell was a 1st time seller had not been heard from since. They figure it cost him 10 grand because it's no longer a number matching car.

This car is from Kenny & Marilyn Newcombe’s mustang collection. They sold roughly $700k worth of mustangs. By the way mecum doesn’t guarantee the cars authenticity..they’ve states that it’s no possible to authenticate each car that comes thru their auction. That’s why it’s a very good decision to smarten up yourself on a car that you may potentially buy from anywhere.

You want to know the biggest scam in the used car market right now? It's the rebadging of base or mid level trim Nissan vehicles up to SV. It's very hard to get the trim level off the VIN number.

If its a true GT-H from this era, there will be 2 screw holes on the underside of the dash between the center vents and above the traction control buttons. All had aftermarket Sirius radios added in the Shelby assembly line and the bracket was screwed there. I should know, I installed about 100 of them while they were being made.

I found a guy doing this with a GMC Sprint. It had SS emblems on it. I told him it wasn't an SS and he swore up and down it was. So either he was scamming or he got scammed. SS is a Chevy designation. Sprint had a similar model, but they were SP. So watch out for that people!!

Not necessarily a scam. The ford dealers swapped those sill plates out when they got scuffed up or damaged. The badges got stolen alot. On the later rentals they put them on the inspection sheet. It was the same engine. The 4.6 was the same. Look for side moldings and run the carfax. The ones sold through hertz came with paperwork from Shelby where they had Shelby reps recert them. I worked at a luxury hertz location and rented them once a month and drove them to Daytona with my wife. So, none of this stuff is an indicator. My next door neighbor has an H, ill check his engine cover but I'm sure it was the same. I drove a f150 and my wife had a Shelby California Special. The CS was what the H was, with different stripes. She just sold her CS and made 24k on hers. We kept the mileage to less than 10k. That's why we rented the H. That and I got a discount as a manager.

You can always just check the VIN. Always start there and then move to other items. The VIN doesn't lie unless the seller illegally changed the VIN.

Very few civilian consumers will buy a used car at auction, without issues or misrepresentations ! Do NOT do it, would be my recommendation. Businesses do buy them, but they have options to assist, if there are problems. Civilians do not.

64 1/2 to 67. VIN on inner driver's side fender, 68 is on pass side dash, 69 up on drivers side dash.
